Yo ho ho, he took a bite of live action Gum Gum! Talking about Netflix's One Piece

They've released the episode titles for season 2, under the spoiler:
  1. The Beginning of the End
  2. Good Whale Hunting
  3. Whisky Business
  4. Big Trouble in Little Garden
  5. Wax on, Wax Off
  6. Nami Deerest
  7. Reindeer Shames
  8. Deer and Loathing in Drum Kingdom

Going by those titles it looks like we'll have one episode at Loguetown, one episode with Laboon, one episode in Whiskey Peak, two episodes in Little Garden, and three episodes at Drum.

Can't wait!

Considering that we only have 8 episodes, that sounds sensible. I'm curious if Smoker will appear more often in these arcs, as Garp did in S1.

Looking forward to it! I want to see Luffy hold up the jolly roger, after being shot by Wapol.

We're still waiting for Season 2 but they've recently made a couple of casting announcements for Season 3.

First is Cole Escola as Mr. 2 Bon Clay. I admit this is a character I've been worried about them getting right, because there's so many ways they could be done wrong. But out the gate they say they're envisioned as non-binary which is good news, and honestly just looking at the actor they already seem to have Mr. 2's hairstyle. If they can pull off the character's theatrical ham persona then it will be a great fit.

Second is Xolo Maridueña as Portgas D. Ace, who you might recognize as Miguel from Cobra Kai. This is another smart bit of casting. We know he's got the action chops.

We're not even in Season 2 yet and I already can't wait to get to Alabasta.

Proper new trailer for Season 2.

I wonder how many people came on in Season 1 with no actual experience with the series will be put off by the more fantastical turn things will be taking starting here.

Yup, still looking great. They haven't shied away at all from some of the more out there character designs, like Crocus or Hiriluk. Love the blink and you'll miss it shot of Wapol, everyone's favorite goofus baddie. Just a month to go, too.

Oh, that looks great. Love the designs. We get a good look on most of them, if not all, by now. Seeing Robin made me grin. I'm looking forward to this. And I guess we at least reach Alabasta.

Had to look up who Hirikul is, he has a different name in the German translation.

Wait, there was no Smoker in that trailer, right? Kinda wild, if it is as I assume, and he has the role of the recurring antagonist, like Garp in S1.

Season 2 is out now, just watched the first episode and it still really good. Reviews for the season seem to be universally glowing as well.

The cold open was a bit of a surprise, and if you're not already familiar with a certain character and their powers then it might be a bit of a shock to folks who have only seen the live action, Devil Fruit powers can do more than just give stretchy limbs.

The cameos in this first episode were great, a few blink and you'll miss them posters, and one really cheeky cameo of a character who is seen out of focus in the background that won't actually matter until, like, Season 11 if this show gets that far. But the biggest one is Bartolomeo, who was not present here at all originally but his addition here is neat, if not super necessary. But it doesn't detract, so it's fine.

Kind of shocked at that flashback scene between Roger and Garp. Which is something that is in the original series but not until much, much later. That one just feels like them dropping tidbits fans will recognize for the hell of it.

Jeff Ward is still great as Buggy. Alvida's new powers aren't conveyed super well in live action, but they did the best they could. Kind of bummed we didn't see the Buggymobile though.

One surprising addition is the meeting between Tashigi and Miss All Sunday at the end of the episode, seemingly setting up something more for Tashigi to do besides follow Smoker around for the season, that might be neat.

Anyway, still a great adaption. If we're lucky we won't have to wait two and a half years for season 3.

Watched the 1st 2 eps today, goosebumps the whole time. I know there'll be disappointments down the road, many understandable as there's no way they can fit the whole manga, or its wackiness in there, S1 has several of those, but these 2 eps in particular were 😘👌🏻

I thought we'd be having only Bartolomeo from the future, but then Sabo as a blurry background figure... and the next episode, bam! Freaking Brook!! And not as a silhouette, but fully casted in a spoken role!
Got me right in the feels.

Enjoying also even the added material giving further characterization to the Marines, specially Tashigi, indeed.

Three episodes in and I'm liking the little changes here and there. I think Whisky Peak flowed a lot better here since the live action version does away with the brief fight between Luffy and Zoro when Luffy misunderstands what he's doing, and making the episode Zoro-centric as he continues to struggle with his defeat at the hands of Mihawk was a smart choice since he is the MVP of the brawl.

As a potential spoiler for what may come, I think Igaram might actually be dead here. He didn't have an offscreen demise like in the manga and anime, we see him get done blowed up. The live action series has already had no qualms about making deaths of side characters stick, like poor Merry last season. It's not impossible he still pops back up at the end of Season 3 having miraculously survived somehow, but I don't think it's likely.

That's season 2 done, and maaaaaaaaan I need them to finish season 3 asap. Season 1 already felt like a small miracle that it turned out so well and season 2 just keeps going at the same pace, it's wild that this show works as well as it does.

There were a couple of 'too goofy for live action moments', a couple of diversions from the original that I don't love but am mostly fine with, but on the whole this adaption is as strong if not stronger than the first season.

And don't think I didn't immediately recognize the musical motif used as the final scene zoomed out, show runners! You cheeky bastards. I was wondering if we would even hear that in season 3, I guess I have my answer!

I have to wait for a friend, before I can continue past episode 1, so out of curiousity: Anything as "bad" as the whole sideplot with Garp, Coby and Helmeppo in S1? "bad" because it was not horrible, just distracting from the stuff I was actually interested in, and felt kinda meh, compared to everything else, while taking up a lot of time. Anything like that in S2? Just spoil me, if so.

Not really anything like that. Smoker and Tashigi have a side plot of hunting Baroque Works agents but there's only like three scenes of it in the whole season. It might matter more in Season 3. There's also some additional scenes of Miss All Sunday maneuvering behind the scenes, but no big distractions from the Straw Hats like in the first season.

The one change that did kind of bother me, if only a little bit, was Mr. 3 seemingly killing Miss Valentine after the crew leaves Little Garden. Her survival isn't exactly vital, but it is canon that she, Mr. 5, and Miss Goldenweek survive and stay on Little Garden so it felt like just shock value. But it also cuts away, so it's up in the air.

The additional bits in episode 1 were pretty nice, I thought, so that sounds all great.

Regarding Miss All Sunday, not about the live action show, but general: Wasn't her name Miss Bloody Sunday? That's what I remember it as.

Just had a look, and while I can't type in kana here, in Japanese it was seemingly ooru, so I guess all. Which means, that the German version called her Miss Bloody Sunday, both the anime and the manga. Like all agents, they names of the agents are in English.

Funny, and kinda weird. And while I tend to dislike random translation changes like this, I prefer Bloody to All Sunday as her agent name.

Not sure, but オール has the same number of syllables as "Bloody" so it's (usually) an easier match where line reading pace or lip-syncing is an issue.

Plus... I don't know an native-English dialect that uses "All-Sunday" as a phrase.

I think the simple explanation is, that the German translators thought Bloody Sunday sounded cooler. Considering the way the anime got translated. Would be my guess, at least. Especially with Bloody Sunday being right there.

I have watched episodes 2 and 3 now. Really enjoyed them, I liked all the changes they made. Having Luffy sing to Laboon is, imo, an improvement, and it was just a nice scene, watching the actor sing this song. Together with the flashback scenes, that was really effectiv.

I never liked the fight between Luffy and Zorro, so good on them for changing that. And, while Zorro is super strong, he is not quite as overpowered as in the manga, where he had no problem at all with anyone. Here, he gets wounded by grunts, and can't just defeat the woman with the club (no idea, what her name is).

And Nami gets to actually fight a bit, which I really like. I enjoy this version of her a lot.||

Looking forward to the rest, whenever I get to it.
