The problem with nostalgia and remakes is not that they exist, but that they are the only things to exist. Like, this movie doesn't need the Ghostbusters IP. It is clearly going for a different tone and style. And these days, unless you're one of a small handful of very successful white male directors, you're not getting a big budget to do a movie unless it's attached to existing IP.

I like that this is a radically different take on the series. Having it be a more kid focused movie starring mostly kids is the best place to take this since Ghostbusters works best as a kid’s show. Never saw the movies, love the Real Ghostbusters and highly enjoyed Extreme Ghostbusters.

plotwise, no, it doesn't make sense because it's a weird fragment from a cut sideplot, edited down to one dumb gag

tonally, it absolutely fits in a movie that opens with peter trying to sleep with his research subjects and culminates in a summoning ritual that is one long double entendre

ghostbusters is a genre mashup, and one of those genres is Sex Comedy

imho the ideal modern ghostbusters movie would do away with one of the ghostbusters arguably being a sexual predator, but it should probably still be a raunchy comedy (no comment/opinion/prediction on what this movie will be, the gap between trailers and movies themselves is huge these days...)

Yeah, I think this is key. There may be some Amblin DNA in here, but I'll be very surprised if they don't get closer to the original feel by the end.

You're right about the sex comedy observation although it's fairly dialed back beyond the whole gate keeper thing, making the ghost blowjob feel like the relic of earlier drafts to me.

I suspect if you made original Ghostbusters exactly as is for the first time this year people would be giving it serious side eye with Venkman's antics, ghost rape and Token Winston. And that's just from the top of my head. I'm cool with this being its own thing but finding new things to do with the idea.

Octopus Prime

Mysterious Contraption
(He/Him)
And it’s mentioned so casually, and with a less colloquial name that I’m pretty sure a lot of people never picked up on it

Zef

Find Your Reason
(He/Him)
It's New York. It's less "date rape" and more "sewers are crawling with giant alligators and there's aliens dropping from a hole in the sky".

Büge

Arm Candy
(she/her)
Peter's dubious possession of Thorazine pales compared to the implication that he had sex with Dana when she couldn't technically consent.

YangusKhan

Okay, I'm pretty sure there is no implication about this?

Octopus Prime

Mysterious Contraption
(He/Him)
I'd need to rewatch the movie to be sure, but I recall him turning down a possessed Dana who was coming on *real* strong

I don't care to discuss the Thorazine thing because it's too ambiguous.

The less ambiguous way that Peter Venkman is a sexual predator (and what I was referring to) is that he's introduced as running an elaborate scheme to fuck his student research subjects.

Super Megaman X

dead eyes
(He/Him)
"I want you inside me." "No, I can't. Sounds like you got at least two people in there already, might be a little crowded."

Peter very specifically refuses Dana's company under the circumstances.

Yeah, Peter backs off from it, and sedates her with the Thorazine. Hence him being alarmed about quite how much it took.
