Who house rules thunderdomes (and Top 50s)?

So domes and popularity contests have their own base rules and additional rules set by the hosting tyrant(s). But do you have self-imposed rules that you place upon you own entries for them?

For Thunderdomes; previous winners should never be entered again. If it's already won, then it doesn't need to win again and can make room for other greats. Besides, once we hit 64 thunderdomes, we can have a contest of champions.

Well, someone submitted a winner on a dome and no one did anything about it so it's not a rule for everyone. I mean, I'm sure for some it's "I don't care enough to look at who one so do what thou will" which, fair, but I'm definitely the kind who cares too much.

House rule: ignore that base rule

make room for other greats.
One of my rules is to not re-submit a dome entry that I had submitted in a previous dome (even if it wasn't the winner).

I've seen a lot of people mention "one per series" with regards to their lists. I have a hard enough time generating a list to begin with, personally.

That's an OK house rule if you have enough (or way too many) options.

My Top50 vote #25 is almost always a joke-y entry. Just because. I can only think of once or twice when one actually made it!

It's not a house rule for me but sometimes I will try to game the system by putting one of my more obscure favorites at #1.

Oh yeah, I’ll absolutely bump up legit faves that are more on the obscure side for that reason.

Now does anyone else sometimes rearrange your Top 50 list to keep similar entries (or ones from the same source) apart?

Looks like we're doing Zalgos first. I'll get the nomination thread up sometome early Thursday.

Edit: Wrong thread

Unfortunate doesn't begin to describe...

This may be strange... but if there's an entry that's not on the list but is spiritually similar to an entry on the list, I merge the two together. For example, if some people submitted a town, but other people submitted an area right next to the town and very similar to the town, I count them both as one entry.

I don't know why one per series is a rule, even one per game is odd to me.

Yeah, in terms of *running* a Top-50, making gut-check decisions on which votes should be grouped into a single entry is super common - there's lots of kinds of lists where you're bound to get things that are a little ambiguous.

And though it feels a little crass to do it for my own nom, I guess since nobody else has chimed in I’ll break the previous tie
I've seen this sentiment expressed before in Thunderdomes and I've never quite understood it. People can do whatever they want with their dome votes and I also don't see why voting for your own pick would bother anyone else who's participating in the dome.

And here are a couple of other points I wanted to share as food for thought:
If you had voted earlier or someone else had voted later then the match situation could have been entirely different.

If you don't vote to break a tie then you are making things a little bit harder for the dome runner. And it could cause a delay in starting the next round/match.

All true! I presumably would’ve already voted for it earlier if I hadn’t been offline yesterday and then there wouldn’t have even been a tie to break.
