I'm hesitantly optimistic about the gameplay, but I can also anticipate a result where I end up being disappointed with the combat.

So if Rose is Trevor's daughter the does that make her Simon's mother?

I suppose Trevor could have had more than one child...

Simon is a young man in 1691 (Castlevania) whereas Rose's Paris adventure takes place in 1499... so probably not. For known Belmonts, Christopher and Soleiyu are between those periods too (1576 to 1591).

Huh, I wasn't clear on the actual dates but I was always under the assumption that Trevor was Simon's grandfather, but I guess that's outdated info.

It was loosely thrown about in slapdash English-language manuals and promotion at a time when those two were just about the only Belmonts that had been introduced, but of course things have developed since. The only grandparent relation that's plainly stated in the series is when Juste (Harmony of Dissonance, 1748) makes mention of his grandfather Simon breaking Dracula's curse that inflicted him, back in 1698.

Played Dominus Collection and Symphony back to back recently. Portrait was more fun than I remember, and I didn't mind the glyph switching in Order so much for some reason. Dawn is still tops among them though.

As for Symphony, that game could use a remake IMO. The castle's too big, with sparse warps. Takes too long getting from one point to another.

I've often thought it would be great if every save point was also a warp point. And if there was an item like the library card that would take you to the nearest save point or the last one you visited.

What if Simon's Quest but with modern *tired sigh* sensibilities?

OR

"We have Simon's Quest at home", etc.

I tried the Steam demo for that today. Not a tremendously long demo, but it felt to me like a Castlevania II wrapper around mansions designed like Castlevania I stages.

My opinion remains as it was: I don't think I particularly want to play this, but I love the clear example it's giving of exactly where the line is on ripping off a game before you get in legal trouble.

I played the demo at MAGfest, and really enjoyed it!

I've enjoyed some of Retroware's other releases, too, but I love Simon's Quest, so I've really been looking forward to this one.

every time i see this project i think "man i need to get around to making my shameless metroid ripoff that's nowhere near as similar as the title would suggest"

I see he's toned down the overt bits since I first mentioned it.
Hero's face has smug jerk written all over it though. I do see he saved the best part for the end of the trailer.

Was there a demo version of this released a few years ago? Or did someone make a very similar game? Either way I don't think that slide into jump move is a good fit for a game with bottomless pits. But I'm not sure if this game even has those...

Yeah "Simon Quest" is a very old project at this point. I was very worried it was going to release on top of Classic and Classic 2. Bloodstained, that is.

Seeing the timeline of games stop with Lords of Shadow 2 and go dormant for twelve years is rough, but the same could be said for nearly all Konami properties.

The portraits of Lament of Innocence, Curse of Darkness and Lords of Shadow strongly hint at a 3D Collection. Unfortunately, the only 3D Castlevania games I would be interested in replaying are the oft maligned 64 games, of whose portraits were not shown. The PS2 Castlevanias were okay to mediocre, and Lords of Shadow was a fine gothic action game that happened to have some Castlevania elements. I didn’t play the rest, which I heard were worse. At least Mercury Steam went on to make the best Metroid games of the past twenty years.

I get what Bigman is saying this is more of a side note.

But I have to say again because nobody believes me.

Lords of Shadow STARTED OFF as a Castlevania game. I was there I saw it.
Then it became not one. Then with the Kojima endorsement it was one again.

I believe you, Tomm. It is easy to forget that with how…unique some of Mercury Steam’s interpretations of the series’ lore and gameplay mechanics were. One of the subweapons being a crystal that you have to find several shards of to then summon a topless demon lady that screen clears all the enemies does not scream Castlevania.

I hope a 3D collection would at least gather the N64 and PS2 titles.

LoS would be nice, too, but maybe that could hold its own collection of three?

Then again, maybe not. I don't know.

With LoS as a "maybe," none of them seem strong enough on their own, but as one big collection... well, I'd be interested in trying them. The only ones I've really played are the second PS2 game, LoS, and a demo of the 3DS LoS game.

I'm all for a collection of the 3D games for the sake of preservation. I am still far more interested in the more traditional Castlevania projects, but I wouldn't object to seeing everything else also remain more widely available.

Anyone who wants to tell me four great Castlevania tracks and then vote which you like best, please do so here!

One of the subweapons being a crystal that you have to find several shards of

Yeah, this sounds like a pain. The games love their obscure weapon mechanics but that's different from just, like finding stuff on a map

to then summon a topless demon lady that screen clears all the enemies does not scream Castlevania.

However, I've played enough SOTN that I'll never be able to fully cosign this opinion
