Which game would you like to forget everything about, so you could play it for the first time, again?

A lot of people have said Portal, but I think I'd actually pick Portal 2. That game did such a good job of making the player feel like they were exploring areas they really weren't supposed to be in (mechanically, but also story-wise) even though you were designed to be exactly in those places. It was just a constant delight to navigate through those environments.

I think that for pure, inexplicable joy that has no bearing on how I play other videogames, getting to experience Katamari Damacy anew would be pretty tops

There’s way to many for me. I can’t even narrow it down to five. Or ten.

All of them tbh
But if I were forced to pick...

I think I'd have to go with Shadow of the Colossus. Just the experiences of meeting those colossi, the epic battles, the slow subtle progressions, exploring that pristine, abandoned world... that's a game that leans heavily on how you experience it, so it would really benefit getting to go in blind all over again. Other "Experience" games like ICO, Journey, and others in those veins would be good.

I think Breath of the Wild would be a strong contender. Rarely has a game kept me entranced so consistently throughout with all the exploring and adventuring. I love a lot of games, but BotW was the first that came to mind where the moment-to-moment experience of it was so consistently new and inspiring.

Story-heavy games like Ace Attorney and puzzle games like Baba is You would also be good to experience for the first time again, of course. Baba in particular had some mind-blowing moments of discovery that were fantastic... but that one in particular is so hard that I wouldn't get very far anyway.

I actually don't think I'd like to do any of the Souls games. My first playthroughs are, while still gripping and rewarding, often also stressful and difficult and frustrating. There are fantastic moments in each game that would be fun to re-encounter for the first time, and re-exploring the environments and re-discovering secrets would be great too, don't get me wrong. But I think some of my best memories of each game come on replays as I'm less stressed since I'm already relatively good at the game, and I'm just getting to mess around, experiment with builds, etc.

Oh, yeah, Shadow of the Colossus would be an amazing choice. I purposely didn't replay the game because the first time through was such an experience. I don't even know that I'd say the gameplay itself was all that stellar, but the world, the colossi, the forlorn atmosphere (and the striking feeling of doing something terribly, hideously wrong) combine to make one of the most effective "art" games of all time.

I don't want to forget any of my experiences because they play a part in shaping who I am and how I think. The premise seems informed by the supposition that the highest form of enjoyment comes at first contact, and I don't think that'll ever be true for me or something I'd want to chase. If it's an old memory, it can live on parallel to new understanding of the material; it's not a mutual exclusivity clause in something being overwritten.

I was going to pick Portal 2. Mostly just for the final hour or so.

I think, if there was a feeling I wanted to recapture that I can't by just replaying the game, it would be the surprise of hitting a big, well-constructed plot twist for the first time. Final Fantasy X comes to mind, or most of the games in the Professor Layton series. Or Breath of Fire 3. (Portal has the same energy, but I didn't love actually playing Portal enough--I'm terrible at FPS games.)

FFX major spoils:Realizing Auron is a ghost was something, that's for sure. Among all the rest. Being around others play through this sorta stuff the first time is the closest I've gotten to living it again fresh.

Any of the roguelites: Slay the Spire, Binding of Isaac, Monster Train, etc. And to forget any video I might have seen of them, too. I wonder how much I would enjoy them without *any* foreknowledge, though. With Isaac I might just get grossed out and confused and give up.

Seconding Portal and Flower.

Super Mario Bros 3 (and all subsequent Mario games).

I remember being so blown away by SMB3 when it first came out. I liked SMB2, but I didn't love it like SMB1. SMB3 felt like SMB1 but expanded in every conceivable direction. More levels, more enemies, more movement directions, more secrets, and more suits. The introduction of the Koopa Kids! It was amazing.

I'm reading through other peoples responses. Demon's Souls, Symphony of the Night and Portal are all great choices as well.
