In honor of National Ice Cream Day (the third Sunday in July) I wanted to see how we all take our ice cream.

And here are the different types of cones just in case you didn't know which is which.

There's just something about the stale, styrofoamy, tasteless cake/wafer cones that are just so good. It's not ice cream without them. And every time a friend gets upsold on 'better' cone types I snicker on the inside. More heavenly goodness for me! And I didn't even pay more for it.

Any cone as long as it has a layer of chocolate at the bottom

So I guess a pretzel cone wouldn't interest you at all?

I don't consider a Blizzard a milkshake, a Blizzard is far superior to just a milkshake, so I didn't vote for it. Runner-up for me is the ice cream cookie sandwich so that's what I voted for.

Cups are an acceptable vehicle for ice cream. But they are certainly not ideal. Cups necessitate two handed eating, which is inferior to one handed eating with a cone. It also precludes ease of licking ice cream, which is definitely the most fun way to eat ice cream. Cups also don't insulate the ice cream nearly as well as a cake/wafer cone with all the air that it's got inside, so your hand-heat will warm the ice cream up and make it melt faster. Finally, you cannot eat most cups, which leads to more waste.

On the plus side for cups: I am much less tempted to eat ice cream in a cup while driving, which is probably safer for myself and everyone around me. Cups are also the only way to eat Dippin' Dots, which rule. And it's also generally a lot less messy way to eat. So the noble cup has got some decent stuff going for them.

Milkshakes are ideal for someone with a hectic “on-the-go” lifestyle, but who still wants to enjoy the sugary chunk-milk that is ice cream

Fancy cones are the worst thing to ever happen to ice cream. I love the old standard cake/wafer cone, and hate when I order an ice cream some place and those aren't available because they've been supplanted by newer, fancier cones.

When I was young I decided I hated cones (probably because I'd only had those wafer cones, which are a texture I hate in *anything*, much less messing up my delicious ice cream, plus they taste like styrofoam nothing, as even people who voted for them seem to agree) so I always got my ice cream in a cup/bowl, and was non-plussed if that wasn't an option. As an adult, I"m all-in for waffle cones, which actually taste *good* and complement most ice cream flavors, and are available pretty much everywhere now.

Of course, shakes are also great, and *good* ice cream sandwiches using tasty cookies are the bomb, though cheap ones can be extremely mediocre.

The thing about milkshakes, is that they're inferior to freezes. (For the uninitiated, a freeze is when you take soda and ice cream and blend them together. Like, imagine if someone took a root beer float and then put it in a blender. You can do this with any soda type and it's really good.) Why would I buy a milkshake when I could have a root beer freeze instead?
