What'cha Reading?

Tomie was never a series and Tomie stories were released every so often so you'll definitely noticed some sudden upticks in artistic quality as the years go by. "Revenge" is a particular favourite, I love the abrupt last panel.

I put my Brust Quest on hold and have started reading a scholarly book about Shaligrams, the ammonite fossils that are sacred to Hinduism, and it's real cool.

Only thing I found disappointing was that it lacked any sort of ending, as opposed to Uzumaki

I follow a blog from a scientist who studies Shaligrams and it is very enlightening and cool. I wonder if it's by the same person.

Finished Fake Accounts by Lauren Oyler. Was maybe a little tired by the end but the final joke more or less in the book was so funny I laughed out loud. Doesn’t happen a lot! Recommend if you have ever been on Twitter “too much.”

Many years ago, I was a huge fan of Mick Foley's first book Have a Nice Day (Foley is Good was a decent follow up). Now, I'm finally getting around to reading The Hardcore Diaries

I have a bunch of books I should read but most of what I end up reading is stuff on the internet. I don't hate fanfiction like some people seem to, but all the same, I'm not putting it on my finished book list either. Not unless I end up finishing one that's like 200,000 words or something.

Last night I finished Nobody is Talking About This, the first novel from America's Most Online poet, Patricia Lockwood. It's a small, personal story, but if you liked the style of her memoir Priestdaddy, you'll like this one too.

Dostoevsky is immortal!

I'm reading A Swim in a Pond in the Rain, in which George Saunders walks the the reader through analyses of seven short stories by four Russian masters (Tolstoy, Chekhov, Turgenev, and Gogol). You ever get the feeling a book was written specifically for you?

Why yes I would like George Saunders to walk me through short story analyses! Guess I'll have to read that book too.

Even though I was a WWE/Monday Night RAW guy back in the day, I'm sure I'm going to find Nitro: The Incredible Rise and Inevitable Collapse of Ted Turner's WCW by Guy Evans an interesting read

This was recommended to me by the newsletter from a local bookstore, the owner of another local bookstore and a member of my classics book club. Currently in queue position 7 at the library, can't wait!

Thanks for cluing me in on this! Def going to the head of the reading pile.

Finished off the month with The Complete Peanuts, Vol. 9: 1967 - 1968

Now, I'm finally going to give Red Rising by Pierce Brown a chance

My character in our Monsterhearts game borrowed The Fault in Our Stars from a classmate, so I figured I should read it myself. Turns out that’s a really sad book, y’all!

I'm about 1/3 of the way through N.K. Jemisin's new one, The City We Became. Maybe it's just because I like reading about my home (the book is about six people who become avatars of New York City and the five boroughs to protect it against an extra-dimensional threat) but I'm really enjoying it so far.

that was one of the best cliff hanger endings I've read in recent memory. Now, on to Morning Star and see if Pierce can "stick the landing"

Have to say, the last book was the weakest in the trilogy. I think some sections dragged on a bit too long. Still, very solid, and I'd recommend the series to any SF fan.

So, seeing as how the WCW book was a bust, I'm reading a book on the WWE called We Promised You A Great Main Event by Bill Hanstock
