I read two books in a row that were not full-text books and I'm amused.
I'd heard about both The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse and The Archer from friends, with the basic gist being that it was good positive quarantine reading.
Both are basically just art with phrases that give advice on how to live a good life. They were both from the library so I'm not out any money and neither took me even an hour to read, but that was weird.
Anyway, onto Eat a Peach.

Staying with the game show trend, I'm now reading Backstage with the Original Hollywood Square by Peter Marshall. Didn't really watch much of the original show, but I was a big fan of the revival and the Whoopi one
Time for some Victorian inspired fiction with Death and Mr. Pickwick by Stephen Jarvis
Putting that temporarily on hold to read the next Malazan book, Deadhouse Gates by Steven Erikson

If anyone is interested in this it's pretty inconsistent but worth getting from the library I think. The first half was pretty strong and I really appreciate his openness about mental health and abuse in the kitchens. But the second half kind of just seemed like a random selection of topics. I did really like the "let me rewrite this" chapter which was a pretty illuminating look at someone's thoughts and reactions before and after treatment for mental illness.

Starting Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women That a Movement Forgot, which is by the woman who started the #SolidarityIsForWhiteWomen discussion in 2013. Been meaning to read it since it came out last year as I heard a lot of very divisive things about it but not too much specifically about the content.

Yeah, I'm glad I finally read it. The Women's Group at work runs a book club and we read The Moment of Lift by Melinda Gates in 2019 and I'm thinking of suggesting this as a followup. Might be a good way to restart the club since 2020 put it on hold.

My leisurely-as-eff journey through the Chronicles of Elantra continues with book 4, Cast in Fury. This one focuses on the Leontines. Sagara is a fairly prolific author and it shows. She shows the same strengths, and the same weaknesses in every single book so far. I love the world-building in this series, and the cast of characters, but think the writing is overall fairly weak and/or not given enough editorial attention.
Glengarry Glen Ross by David Mamet. After reading that last book, I decided to get back to reading plays on the regular, both contemporary and classical

Finally starting The Midnight Library after it's been recommended to me by friends, coworkers and lists on Goodreads. I've had it on my hold list for at least two months and over 100 people have it on hold after me so my hopes are high.
Taking a break from my Wheel of Time re-read after finishing Crossroads of Twilight because that was an awful slog. I know it gets better with the next one, and goes pretty well through the combined Jordan/Sanderson works to follow. But my momentum was killed between these last few.
Grabbed Peace Talks and Battle Ground by Jim Butcher to round out the most recent Dresden books. It'd been so long since the last one I was shocked that two came out within months of each other.

I finished Urth of the New Sun, read about half of The Island of Doctor Death and Other Stories and Other Stories, and now I'm reading Book of the Long Sun. It's nice to have no idea what's going on again, and I'm sure that I'm missing all kinds of little winks and nods to whatever is actually happening behind the scenes.

This is a VERY good book and highly recommended. A dark premise but I like that the ending pulls her out of her depression without wrapping everything up neatly as she's still struggling with rent but has reconnected with the people she needs. Also heckling her brother to ask his future husband out was adorable. Also I really like the protagonist. She's complicated in a great way.
Onto Severance by Ling Ma. It's also has a huge list of holds and was on several books lists I've seen. I don't really know how to interpret the summary "apocalyptic satire" but it sounds interesting!
It’s a fun adventure! Severian cheats death early and often. I didn’t realize going in that it was a direct sequel, or I would have read it a while ago. It’s less winking and more jabbing you with its elbow, but that’s fine by me. After the structure & mystery of New Sun it’s nice to have a quick book that just lets you know how everything turns out.
I liked that book a lot, but I wouldn't exactly call it satire. Felt generally serious all the way through for me.
