We're all just here for the deep Urza lore - Talking about Magic: The Gathering!

The first Star Trek promos dropped and while UB sets are super hit or miss, the integration of setting and mechanic seems pretty good this time. Janeway causes things to explore, Mariner is constantly being promoted and demoted, and then there’s this:

As with all UB sets, you have to know the source material, but this feels like a really elegant translation of a famous episode into a functional / powerful magic card.

Sigh
Is it wrong I’m actually considering the new secret lair just so I can have a Rebecca Guay Bowie as my commander?

I didn't have "Rebecca Guay paints David Bowie as the Goblin King" on any of my 2026 Magic bingo cards, but here we are.

Hey congrats! That pool is cracked, but it's also a massive achievement to win one of those boxes -- I think only something like 3.5% of entries make it all the way through. I hope you get your box quickly!

Thanks! I have to figure out what I actually want to do with it. I've been looking into Mana Pool as a way to sell some of my singles. And I guess I can sell Sealed product from there as well? I don't think I play enough in paper for the actual cards to matter to me, so I should probably just re-sell it...

Selling it is almost certainly the move. I don't know entirely how selling on Manapool works, but from a monetary standpoint those CBBs are going for like $500-600, so you're better off selling it anywhere than opening it. You definitely won't get that much value from the cards inside, and if you really want any singles from the set you can just buy them and still have cash leftover from selling the box.

Speaking of selling, I'm thinking about selling a bunch of the stuff I've accumulated over the years to Card Kingdom to trade my way towards some Premodern staples. At this point it's the only constructed format that's really interesting to me (UB having now become entrenched in Pauper as well), and I finally have the time again to start going to weekly events if I want to. Gotta seriously sit down and figure out what I'd want.
