MegaMan Volnutt (Mega Man Legends) - Hailing from thousands of years into the future, he is -- at the moment -- the last of Mega Mankind.
In a world covered by endless water, he is the Main Diver of a Digger duo who ventures into ruins to fight Reaverbots and retrieve refractors so that humanity can use their energy to survive and thrive, but he winds up discovering much more, including keys to his past.
MegaMan Volnutt differs from his predecessors in a few different ways. Perhaps the most notable (besides being a Mega Man who starts without a helmet) is his lack of any sort of weapon copy system. Instead, he digs up and obtains various parts which he can bring back to his Spotter, Roll Caskett, who he grew up with under the care of her grandfather, Barrell Caskett. There, she'll refurbish the parts into new weapons, albeit ones that are a little more conventional -- at least, compared to the Time Stoppers and Leaf Shields of the past.
Though his profession may be a little more blue collar than those who preceded him, he's still a hero at heart. When Air Pirates threaten the island of Kattelox and those who dwell there in their search for the Mother Lode, he doesn't hesitate to leap into action with his Mega Buster and bring their schemes grinding to a halt. And when a much greater threat emerges, MegaMan is there to see that those plans won't be carried out.
He doesn't do it alone, however. Joining him and Roll on their journeys is Data, a small, dancing robotic monkey who offers advice, refills MegaMan's energy, and perhaps most crucially of all, backs up his save data. In fact, it seems Data has been doing that for MegaMan well before we join in on their adventures, but it's unknown if we've seen the extent of the secrets he keeps.
Unfortunately, MegaMan's story doesn't have a happy ending -- yet. After another battle to determine the fate of the planet on the satellite-world of Elysium that hangs in orbit high above Terra, MegaMan found himself stuck there, waiting on Roll and former (?) rival Tron Bonne to succeed in mounting a rescue.
This year, it will have been about 25 years. Hopefully the former residents of that once "perfect world" managed to preserve a Game Boy or something.
And hopefully something will happen to make Capcom consider investing in the series again, at least long enough to bring this cliffhanger to a close.
