Video Game Remixes: That Sounds Familiar

Cadenza

Mellotron enthusiast

I stumbled across an old Secret of Mana arrange album yesterday, and while I largely didn't care for it I think this remix of "Steel and Snare" kicks a tremendous amount of ass:

No media imbed for Bandcamp... But both of these Mitch Murder remixes are great:

Type-R
DOOM

If you're not familiar with Mega Ran you're definitely in for a treat. Splash Woman is probably his best known work, check it out!

FamilyJules has been on fire this year. There's like five different covers that I'm tossing around as among the best I've heard the past year:

"Reset" is currently at the top of these for me, but what a roll. (the Three Houses one I shared has opera vocals done by Claude himself!)

Issun

Chumpy
(He/Him)
Family Jules is one of the best VG cover artists there are. He also may or may not have been the catalyst for me realizing I'm not entirely straight. 🤷‍♀️

I also need to make sure these are in the new forums:

Paul le Fou

24/7 lofi hip hop man to study/relax to

Is this only for unofficial ones? Or does something like, say, Xenogears Creid count?

Any remix of game music not in the actual game is fair game as far as I'm concerned.

The group Mariachi Entertainment System has a lot of good stuff. Here's their mariachi version of "Bloody Tears":

This is a really good remix of the desert theme from Secret of Mana by Amanda Lepre, who is in Descendants of Erdrick:

Dark Medusa

Diamond Crusader
(He/they)

Not exactly a video game song remix, but here's one of those art collab remixes that takes all the incredibly charming final remixes from Rhythm Heaven and makes new art for them.

I Swear I'll post actual music remixes next time.

This is an energetic full band cover of Mega Man 3's title theme by Technodrome, an Australian band (not sure how active they still are, been 8 years since a video went up on their YT channel):

Dark Medusa

Diamond Crusader
(He/they)

J-Music Ensemble has pretty fantastic jazz covers; this one is a little outside their usual wheelhouse (as I know it), but it's a cool jazzy duo take on Kass's Theme.

gotta have a little BotanicSage in here, too

It's Halloween so here's three of my favorite spooky remixes:
The primary composer for River City Girls, Megan McDuffee, kills it on her Banjo-Kazooie cover of "Mad Monster Mansion".

Tetsuya Fuzuki, Jill and REO combine their musical talents for a splendid gothic rock remix of "Bloody Tears" from Castlevania II: Simon's Quest.

Alina Gingertail absolutely nails the mood and atmosphere of Silent Hill's title track.
