Video game moments that gave you good vibes

We all presumably know that our world is a rather stressful, distressing place. In such trying times, we all could use a spark of hope. Or happiness, joy, whatever, any kind of positive emotion. Why not help by sharing moments that gave you good vibes?

I'll begin. During Legend of Dragoon's second chapter, there's a bit where the party just chills out while riding a ship, and you get to play as each party member in turns, talking lightheartedly to other party members as this music plays in the background:

It's a really cool and wholesome bit, and stands out quite well, even in a game filled with solid character moments.

This is probably more of a "cool little detail" type thing more than anything, but In Zelda OOT, the little fairy sparkles that float around in Kokiri Forest. Whenever you stand still long enough, they start arranging themselves into caterpillar-like formations and kinda just gently whiz around a little.

I always liked that detail.

Also, VB Wario Land, the little mole critter that hangs out on one of the "end of stage" screens (I think the one right after the bonus stage screen). He'll just be watching TV or otherwise hanging out doing his thing. Just a chill little guy.

Nice! Any screenshots/videos? I think visuals would do a lot to sell the vibes. Granted, I also didn't share any...I'll make sure to fix that for my next post!

Actually, after a little digging:

I tried to start each video as close to what I was talking about as I could. Even then, though, it's more "here's some fun details" as opposed to "here's some things to vibe to."

As compensation, I offer this:

Slimy Springs Galaxy in Mario Galaxy 2 is a stressful and challenging level consisting of a long underwater tunnel that you speed through, barely reaching the next bubble of air again and again, for what seems like forever...

Until, suddenly, you pop out of the water at the end at a peaceful meadow with a beautiful sunrise shining ahead. The incredible contrast, the perfect tension and release made me gasp out loud the first time. Truly incredible level design.

So many moments of exploration and discovery in Elden Ring. Coming out of the crpyt at the start of the game and seeing Limgrave laid out before you and the Erdtree in the distance. Coming around the corner (or out the back) of Stormveil and seeing Liurnia laid out before you. Coming out on the ramparts and seeing Leyndell...uh, laid out before you.

Or in Breath of the Wild, right at the start, coming out of the cave...and...god dammit. Seeing Hyrule laid out before me.

I guess I like seeing large swathes of explorable world laid out before me.

Very recently, the moment in Mini and Max from UFO 50 where you realize the game is much, much "bigger" than you thought it was.

The Mass Effect series popped into my head first. There's a ton of great moments, but I always liked this last conversation with Garrus.

And basically the entire Citadel DLC. Just a beautiful goodbye to all the characters.

I don't remember many particular moments from ABZU, but Sword of the Sea had some great moments of just smoothly surfing through the desert, finding secrets, overlooking great views. Recommend that to anyone who likes Journey, ABZU, et al

This isn't any kind of plot spoiler, but I'll tag it anyway since it's a recent-ish game.

In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, when the party arrives at the Gold Saucer they are subjected to an elaborate, loud and garish welcoming ceremony, during which Cloud starts hallucinating again. Barret notices something's off with him but assumes he's just overwhelmed by all the spectacle, and leans in to whisper, "I know this ain't your scene. Why don't you and me go and book us all some rooms?"

It's just a small character moment but as an introvert myself I found it very kind of him, and would have welcomed a similar opportunity to escape had I been in that situation.

Apropos of nothing, a link to this moment from an LP, done by an LPer I like:

It's about 40 minutes, but what a pleasant 40 minutes it is!
