Marvel Movies I actually want to see:

NEXTWAVE
Complete with extended sequence of everyone beating the holy shit out of a cop.

THAT DOCTOR STRANGE THING
But REALLY lean into the acid trip otherworldly shit that goes way the hell out of it's way to be weird and uncomfortable. Like, 20 full minutes of Benedict Cumberbach dragging himself across a barren wasteland beneath a horrible alien sky. Come on Sam Rami help me out here.

A CRIME MOVIE THAT JUST HAPPENS TO TAKE PLACE IN SUPERHERO WORLD
I have this idea about a movie about a small-time criminal who signs up with some other crooks for a score that goes horribly wrong, only to realize the thing they were stealing was a COOL ROCK resulting in him desperately searching for ways to get Captain Marvel's attention so they can take this horrible thing he wants nothing to do with off his hands. Bonus points if they include a scene where he apologetically beats the shit out of spider man/daredevil/ any of those NYC Asshole heroes.

I guess also you could make him secretly a mutant or whatever if you absolutely must

seriously how have they not already made this movie yet?

Don't say They did it was called Ant Man. Ant Man wasn't a crime movie.

Basically I am at the point in the Media Engagement Cycle where I'm totally over marvel, and will only check out their movies if they look like they're just gonna go balls to the wall with weird shit that you can't really turn into Happy Meals Toys or coloring books.

Oh, Kang, that's neat, I guess if they're not doing Doom he's the next best--

WAIT he's the villain in Ant-Man 3?! Holy shit!

Honestly, it feels like everyone is at this stage. The last entry was a year and a half ago and the pandemic pushed the followup projects back so hard that it feels like the whole thing just... ended. And as much as I'd love to see the really psychedelic Dr. Strange and Jane-Thor stuff they announced, I'd be fine if the whole venture did end at Endgame.

The only big Kang/Immortus stories I've read were Busiek's Avengers run and his contemporaneous Avengers Forever mini, but that seems like a very natural choice if they want to do a long slow buildup to something again. Hopefully this isn't a Thor 2 situation where they introduce a great villain as a one-off to be jobbed and forgotten.

Also, great casting.

edit: Now that I think about it, I guess Young Avengers (<--a series over a decade old) was also a Kang story, huh. Forgot about that. Something like that honestly could be a good route to take. (Should I even bother with a spoiler here? Hmmm.)

There was a Spider-Man sequel last July.

I will still keep seeing them... my short time on this Earth is not that precious.

After time travel was the solution to the big problem in the last Avengers storyline, I don't expect Kang to be a major character past this movie. Ant-Man vs. Kang sounds fun, though.

Since it's just a casting announcement, it may well be just a minor appearance or a "mastermind behind the central antagonist" kind of thing, like Thanos was for the first Avengers film. Then again, he could reopen the possibility of the Microverse that Ant-Man teased us with but didn't follow through in & The Wasp.

I... huh. Yeah. I even referred to that movie earlier in the thread. Weird that it didn't make a lasting impact on me beyond Tony's long shadow on Peter's story.

I mean, I'd rather not considering what we know about Warren Ellis now and that comic is extremely told in his voice.
Ah shit, I forgot. Yeah that was him.

Okay then, some OTHER group of Z-tier loser heroes getting into dumbass shenanigans, in which a cop gets super fucked up.

Kang is one of the biggest Avengers villains (along with Ultron), so it'd be shame to Malekith him.

I re-read NextWAVE not that long ago but before the big Ellis accusations broke, and I found it really did not hold up at all. One big reason is precisely that he treats good/interesting/fun characters like Z-tier losers and does it in a really thoughtless way. The particular edginess in it is extremely of its time. There's a good bit of Al Ewing's run on Avengers where the villain is basically Warren Ellis, and Monica Rambeau gets to fight back against the way NextWAVE handled its characters.

(The thing about Ellis' work is that it is not always like this. He definitely has a "phoning-it-in" mode like for NextWAVE, and an "I care about this" mode for stuff like Planetary or the recent Wild Storm relaunch project.)

Preemptively because I could see it coming up as a counter argument, I don't necessarily think that Ewing was intentionally taking a shot at Ellis here. Maybe he even still likes NextWAVE!

I re-read NextWAVE precisely because I heard that Ewing's Avengers brought it into continuity somehow and wanted a refresher. And mostly I found it was just cruel and bad. In particular, I remember thinking Ellis killing Monica Rambeau's mom off panel for a cheap one-panel gag standing out to me, so I appreciated this being the specific reference Ewing pulls as an example of the way it treated its characters as disposable.

So, even if Ewing personally would stand up for NextWAVE (no idea), I do think this villain and Ewing's approach to characters in his own work do in practice serves as a critique of NextWAVE, intended or not. Ewing is a great model for how to take obscure characters and have ridiculous adventures with them, especially in comparison to NextWAVE.

Ellis might have been more cavalier about that kind of thing since the story was NOT explicitly canonical when he was writing it

Which Avengers run is that page from? I’d have assumed Ultimates, since it looks to be in character for them, but neither they nor Mighty Avengers dealt with Beyond Corporation.

Ewing's New Avengers!

It's between his Mighty Avengers and USAvengers. It's good!

I think this is right, but my personal issue is not that it ruined continuity (it's a Marvel comic, that could be fixed/ignored/etc) but that I didn't find its approach to be very entertaining anymore.

Ant-Man...? Oh dear. Now you've got me worried that they're just going to take Kang and give him Psycho-Man's backstory.

Wikipedia said:
Psycho-Man [is] the leader of a technocracy that governs a microscopic system of worlds in the Microverse. Due to overpopulation on these worlds, the character decides that the macroscopic world will be an ideal new base. Using technology from the mainstream Marvel universe, Psycho-Man remains microscopic in size but is able to function by controlling a suit of advanced human-sized armor.

I love that about Psycho Man. He built what is, to him, a Gurren Lagan sized gigantic super robot and to everyone else, he’s just this green guy.

And he decided that the most interesting thing about him is that he can manipulate peoples emotions.

See, that's why they should save Psycho-Man for the first MCU Fantastic Four movie. He's not as outright silly as The Mole Man and he's not as grandiose as Doctor Doom. A good journeyman supervillain.
