Oh, I was curious about those too recently since I was house hunting! Apparently they're called barn stars and have roots in Pennsylvania Dutch hex signs - painted adornments that eventually became metal adornments for people who could make them until eventually they just became a standard decoration over time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barnstar

I enjoyed the first episode of What If, but I was hoping for a bit more? Creating this alternate reality where we have Buff Peggy Carter punching Nazis in the face is of course a good time, but then it goes and more or less ends like the first Cap movie does anyway, with Captain Carter arriving in the present day and being greeted by Fury. I dunno, they went and took so many liberties as it was (Red Skull wants to summon a literal Hydra? Ok whatevs), sending Peggy to the present anyway was kind of dull.

Animation-wise, it looked really good in action scenes, and not so much in slower talky-talky scenes. Less Peggy and Steve's awkward dates and more Nazi punching please.

I definitely agree with this. And it didn't help that said most talky scenes lacked the chemistry and magic of their live action counterparts. Even in the lesser ones, there is a charm that chimes though but a lot of stuff felt perfunctory. When it slowed down it felt a little like what I've seen of the later Telltale games. But those actions scenes are quite good, particularly the Glenn Miller montage.

I will say I watched this and the first two episodes of the Mandalorian and I feel like the half-hour drama series is something we've been missing in the last 40 or so years. Its why I was bummed when the latest Twilight Zone insisted on being 40 minutes or so per episode when there is a bounty of better story telling when you do it economically. Its something I wished Falcon and Winter Soldier employed (though I liked it more than some) and even Loki probably could have used it a bit.

What If... T'Challa became Star-Lord was lots of fun! Yes, it was the most OP, most idealistic and most contrived arc (he basically saved the whole galaxy before he was 30! And probably saved the skrulls if there's enough of them around to deserve punching, so no Captain Marvel, I guess) but I don't have the heart to begrudge the episode for being An Ode to the Awesomeness of T'Challa, given, er, you know. So I just rolled with it and kept laughing at all the jokes at the original GotG's and Thanos's expense.

That pseudo-stinger, tho.

(And I'm preeeeeetty sure Hela's power didn't come from her headdress, awe-inspiring as the spider hat may be.)

I feel like this week took a bit more advantage of having things go off the rails with a single change, showing just how much of a boss T'Challa is (and how much of a schlub Quill is by comparison). I still don't know how I feel about Nebula continuing to hang around Thanos considering this version still did the whole childhood torture thing, but I guess we're supposed to just accept it in exchange for having a version of Thanos that's much more chill. And having him be the heavy for the gang had its moments.

Gamora was conspicuously absent, though, and considering she appears in some of the key art for What If wearing Thanos's golden armor, I'm guessing we're not done with this particular story branch.

It's a shame this is Chadwick Boseman's last run as T'Challa. But it's good they got him for it all the same. Not to mention literally every other big name that I could tell.

Except Drax. In fact, Dave Bautista was rather explicit about stating that he wasn't even asked, which considering they got everyone else is suspect as heck. And if it had anything to do with him sticking up for James Gunn during his brief ouster then that's pretty dang shitty.

I kind of assumed that in this timeline, it was the Collector who took Nebulas eye, since she keeps pointing at it when talking about the debt she owes him and the jokes he cracks about it.

I loved this episode so much and am already tempted to call this the best of the MCU shows

Still feeling nothing for the Eternals. Yah, we got a couple of shots of Celestials and apparently they're the reason we've never heard of these people before, so, fine, but other than those two shots the visual concept of the film still seems very... grounded? Mundane, as per MCU standards? Which is disappointing for both an adaptation of the most Kirbyesque of Kirby concepts, and also after stuff like Ragnarok and Strange and AM&W, which show that Marvel can be much more grandiose and creative.

I just want to see abstract dimensions and god-machines and very square-faced people with indescribable costumes and bucket helmets and crackle coming out of their hands :p

FINALLY, a trailer that makes Eternals look even the slightest bit intriguing! I'm genuinely interested in this movie now, if only the slightest bit. (and it is just a slight bit) The action finally looks, well, okay, and at least they've given a reason for their lack of action in regards to Thanos, even if it's still a pretty stupid one that they contradict within the same trailer. I'll definitely see this now, but there's no guarantees it'll be at the theater for this one.

I've seen the trailer and like it, like all trailers. Once again ended on what must be one of the movie's better jokes and it wasn't funny in the least. That's fine. Hoping to not watch any more of these films. Black Widow was bad, but I wish Florence Pugh the best.

Didn't expect the Spidey movie to be a full-on Dr. Strange crossover--much less an alternate take on One More Day-- but I'll allow it.

Also I really should've figured it out when all the Spider-Verse casting cameos were leaked :p

Man, the actual Multiverse of Madness movie sounds like it's going to be the Avengers of phase 4, what with all of the story threads popping up all over the place.

(Also, would it kill Sony to add closed captions to their trailers?)

The trailer shows Doc Ock, and hints at Green Goblin and Sandman from the Raimi movies, and Electro and The Lizard from Webb’s. There’s gotta be a sixth villain, but it’s not clear who yet. I’ve never seen the Amazing Spider-Man movies, so maybe I should correct that now.
