Johnny Unusual
(He/Him)
So this is a more old fashioned Thunderdome. Where the question is "Who would win" and the answer is always "Batman with Prep Time".
@Mogri hosted this last year and I thought it would be good to make this a nice annual treat. I might not run it under the same rules as the last time completely (particularly how the ladder and elimination works) but the basics are still the same; we are going to imagine fictional characters (and I guess real ones, if you really want to) doing conflict on each other and we discuss and vote who we think would win. This is less about choosing your FAVOURITE of the characters (though it might have an influence to be sure) but who would win in a fight. In many cases, it doesn't have to be physical. If you have two smarty-pants facing each other, there's a good chance for a battle of wits. Don't just take into account powerset, think also about personality (there are probably some characters who are weaker but "never say die" and more powerful characters who might not be invested enough to care about winning the fight), wits, and other x-factors that are likely to effect the outcome!
Anyway, the big difference between this and the last one is there is a "theme" to this one. The four CLASSIC elements.
Not going to lie, super tempted to add HEART but let's keep it simple. (Besides, Heart should be saved for if we do one where it is Soul/Spirit-Mind-Heart-Body thing (not sure what to call that, though).
So to be clear, we are not going with the five Chinese elements (that would be fun, too, though), this is the Greek Ones and even then we are excluding aether.
So we have Air, Earth, Fire and Water. I want every participant to choose character for each. It doesn't necessarily mean they have Air or Water "powers". They may in some other way represent this idea.
For example, let's look at this example list. (this was going to be my real list but I realized since we'd need and example, this would allow me the fun of starting over!)
Fire - Pyron from Darkstalkers
Very simple. Dude is made of fire and has fire power. So yeah, powers with those themes make sense.
Water - Ice King from Adventure Time
Ice is like hard water. Think about things that are adjectent or related. For fire, you can use something energy or heat focused. Maybe lava. Air it could be gas-related. Earth could... frankly also be lava. Or metal.
Air - Arnie Pye from the Simpsons
See, no powers, but he is connected to the sky being the town's pre-eminent and very bitter sky-reporter.
Earth - Dr. Todd Bruman from one Mr. Show sketch
He's a weirdo scientist in a sketch where he thinks we need to stop walking on the Earth or it will kick so much Earth into space we won't have an Earth. Your character doesn't need to directly connect to the element with a power. It could be a motif or something related to who they are. Maybe they are someone who is obsessed or is meant to evoke said element. And like the last one, you don't have to pick characters purely to "win", sometimes the fun is just what happens when two characters encounter each other!
You don't need to go into detail like I just did. That was more proving a point. Your submission should look more like this.
Air - Arnie Pye from the Simpsons
Earth - Dr. Todd Bruman from one Mr. Show sketch
Fire - Pyron from Darkstalkers
Water - Ice King from Adventure Time
If you think I won't know your character, add a link or description. Unlike some of our other domes, time ISN'T of the essence. Submissions will be open for two weeks. And if you want to change your characters at any point, please do. And if you have any other questions or I neglected to say something else, let me know.
Oh, BTW, if you want to renominate anyone from the last one, I will allow it except for "Big Winner" Godzilla and "Big Loser" Michael Scott.
