MOLD! BLOODY MOLD! WE'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO TALK ABOUT THE BLOODY MOLD BUT THERE'S THE BLOODY MOLD WINKING ME IN THE FACE. I WANT TO CHOP IT OFF AND CUT IT UP AND MADE SOME GUACA-MOLD-E!!

Yes, that's right. It's an Austin Powers in Goldmember reference. In 2021.

I mean it's impossible to guarantee but judging from the demos and previews, RE7 is Megaman 1 and RE8 is going to be Megaman 2

I mean, I've only played an hour of it, but I'm feeling more like RE7 is Mega Man 2 and RE8 is Mega Man 3 (I'm team Mega Man 2, to be clear).

I don't mean to turn this into another Megaman thread. Anyways, my point is RE7 felt like proof-of-concept and this game feels like it will be the full realization

Yeah, I just kinda feel like there's a non-zero chance it will be what if RE7, but more? And I'm not totally sure I want that? Like the shop, and the crafting, and bringing back all the baggage of Chris and Umbrella and the goddamn LORE. Like... what I liked about 7 is that the crafting was minimal, there was no shop, and unless you were looking for it, until the very end, it was entirely possible it was a soft reboot of the series, ditching the shackles of what was already 8 mainline entries of increasingly convoluted backstory (CV is a mainline entry, I will die on this hill).

Who is arguing that Code Veronica isn't a mainline entry? It may not have a number in the title, but it's got far more claim to mainline status than RE3 did (and I say that as someone who loves RE3).

I really need to play through RE7 one of these days...

No one here, that I've seen, but I just wanted to cut off the argument before people were like "8?"

And yes, you do. It's so good.

I 100% agree. RE has a bad habit of like, getting back to silly lore after a reboot. I mean maybe just after 4. But still. It's ok this is in the same world, but better if kept in background. And 7 was first time you played as, just some person, not a part of some elite paramilitary thing. This def changes the feel of things.

My least fave REs are one's that get all deep into dumb Umbrella shit. So CV, Zero and 5.

LIKEWISE - village looks cool, but IUNNO... ive said this a lot, but spooky castle and such. It's not the worst, but i much prefer mundane or modernish settings for this stuff. To me the Baker house is like, so fucking rad. BLECH

Anyway I bought 8 and am still champing at the bit here.

I mean, odds are pretty good most of the game is gonna be subterranean mad science lab like most other REs by volume?

Ludendorkk

(he/him)
Not unless the lab is truly massive, we've already seen the illustrated map of the game:

Like this is less RE7 scope and more RE4

I have RE8 preordered on Steam and I'm getting mixed messages about when I can download/unlock it. I guess I'll try right after midnight, local time, and if it's not that it seems like it will be mid-morning tomorrow?

I have been told the game's much easier on PC due to the ability to use KBM FPS controls, fwiw.

Won't be able to playlre until Sunday, but just got the latest Ethan hand trauma..

This game is cool, but weirdly easy.

Obv first half of 7 is quite challenging, but 2 and 3 remakes also have teeth. I'm sorta just stomping ass on 8 on normal.

Like I said in the RE8 thread, I started on Hardcore based on the advice of one reviewer, but today, I saw several more re-stating the same thing. (Hardcore is not weirdly easy.)

I downloaded at midnight, following the advice of Suzi the Sphere Hunter who said "if you're a diehard survival horror person, start on Hardcore." The attack of the village was... really rough. But once I figured out it's a timed event, not dependant on defeating a certain number of enemies or anything, it wasn't that bad. I got up to where the first demo started, and since that means I know what's coming for at least the next 30 minutes, I'm going to bed, because I have to work tomorrow and I've already been up too late. But, hey, this game is good so far.

@ShakeWell ahahaha... what in bloody hell? I like how the trailer is a deliberate take on Black Hawk Down but just ends abruptly with no connection whatsoever to viruses, BOWs, or what fans of the games would be familiar with. My facetious head canon is that this show provides the background motivation for Leon's law enforcement career by telling the story of his older cousin who joined the military.

I hate that I know this, but the Raccoon City incident takes place in 1998 and that scene is pegged as 2000, so Leon was already in law enforcement by the time that scene happens.

After clamouring for its existence for years, and then ignoring it after its release for (fewer) years, I finally started playing Resident Evil 2 Remake.

I can accept(ish) the fact that the Arklay Mansion is impossible to navigate without solving a logic puzzle in seemingly every room, as that was a secret science lab and they didn’t want everyone to know it was chock-full of monster germs and germ monsters, but this is a municipal building.

Kind of weird that they added (?) lots of flirting between Leon and Claire; didn’t feel like that was something the original release was missing.

As far as I’ve played (the early cameo of Mr. X smooshing a guys face) nothing has, or will, horrify and disgust me as much as the sight of that hamburger in the opening cutscene.

As is often the case; my favourite part of a Resident Evil game are the fake snacks; in this case, from the surprisingly prolific COLD DRINKS company, there’s Pop’n Nuts and GOOOOOOOOOD.

It totally makes sense dude, the station is a repurposed museum or something that definitely had a good reason for locking the doors with weird puzzles

Octopus Prime

Mysterious Contraption
(He/Him)
Very recently repurposed, as the police station has a multi-floor library and also a room full of statuary that includes a large priceless gem.

Things you’d think they’d have removed before renovating, but that’s not how Raccoon City handles things.
