So I just kinda fell into playing Dwarf Fortress again. Started by getting sucked into a youtube channel of very well-made let's play videos (the start of Scorchfountain is a good starting point if you want to binge some) and stumbling across an interview with the lead dev starting off with a rambling annecdote about cats getting drunk off the alcohol soaked into tavern floors when licking their paws and... the only really interesting thing to happen so far is that the very first artifact of the fort was crafted by a child.

Just... a freakin' toddler. One moment he's off in the corner, playing pretend. Then strange mood, he runs over, makes an artifact figurine, and goes right back to playing, but now he's got a maxed out stonecrafting skill so I have this throbbing red DWARF CHILD in the unit list. Also there seems to be no Dwarf Therapist support for the current release as of yet so... that sucks?

And new stuff since I've last checked includes the ability to set up taverns and temples and have random weirdos of various adventure mode-y stripes swing by to check them out, which is... honestly a really fun and interesting new feature.

That said I still for the life of me have not, after like a decade of playing this game, worked out how to get a nice little plot of plump helmets being farmed, eaten/brewed, and the seeds replanted, in a sustainable fashion. I don't understand what keeps happening there. Is it the fact that I never have any bags for the seeds or what?
