This was a good choice for a dome, and I'm glad I got to expose more people to Silpheed's excellent soundtrack!

Probably because it does double duty as the end credits theme. Most of the Game Arts games of the era (the ones that have fail states, at least) run the credits when you game over.

It's not the same as your standard "it's sad that you failed" music, but has the same vibe as a high score table theme, which I consider a pretty quintessential "game over" experience.
