Various ports gradually made it more and more of a Gradius game, and later Gradius games had monsters and weapons from this game
The first boss is a huge brain, deep inside Zelos’ mouth
In some ports of the game, the prominence flames in the fire level is repurposed to be waves of Zelos’ stomach acid
Zelos is a planet eating space monster that you dismantle from the inside out.
Various ports gradually made it more and more of a Gradius game, and later Gradius games had monsters and weapons from this game
The player 2 ship is Lord British, as was Richard Garriots stand-in in the Ultima series
