1. There are an absurd number of other games in this series.
2. This one though was a radical departure from arguably the series' best-known feature.
3. While most of the series focuses on the multiplayer, this one has a surprisingly solid and novel single-player experience.
4. You know, that's not how we generally handle our data savin' 'round these parts.
5. To elaborate on that first point, we are doing this one minus those pluses.
6. I'm not sure why the protagonist was the model for the Bioshock 2 cover. Just one of those weird things.
7. The title is just the name of the first game, and then a number. A fairly big number.

bomberman 64
Yup!

1. There are an absurd number of other games in this series.
I don't even want to count. There's like... 30?
2. This one though was a radical departure from arguably the series' best-known feature.
When I think Bomberman, I think various bombermen stuck in like 3 space gaps in a grid of rock to blow through. Not so here!
3. While most of the series focuses on the multiplayer, this one has a surprisingly solid and novel single-player experience.
For real, it's this cool creative puzzle game where you have to like, place a row of bombs, climb up a ramp to get level with the top them, toss more bombs on that bounce infinitely, and get the whole thing to make a super unstable staircase to get somewhere new. It's worth checking out.
4. You know, that's not how we generally handle our data savin' 'round these parts.
If I recall, progress through the singleplayer mode saves to the cart, like every N64 game, but you can find these costume pieces for customizing your multiplayer character that save to the memory card. You know, the N64 memory card! Plugs into the rumble pack slot! There's like... one other game that ever used it.
5. To elaborate on that first point, we are doing this one minus those pluses.
Explosions are not cross shaped. They're actually spherical. Multiplayer is still a thing but it is a really different experience because of this.
6. I'm not sure why the protagonist was the model for the Bioshock 2 cover. Just one of those weird things.

You will never unsee it.
7. The title is just the name of the first game, and then a number. A fairly big number.
I don't THINK we're actually up to 64 Bomberman games, but I feel like we'll get there eventually and this'll be awkward.

I went with Hero originally but couldn’t remember it having a weird save mechanic whereas I knew that Act Zero did lol

1. You can play as a stick figure.
2. There are plenty of other options to choose from, and indeed a fairly high number for the genre, although far from the highest number.

that's right!

The playable ships from Gradius return alongside some recurring Parodius characters and new choices. Also, below the guys on paper airplanes is a Gradius option that has tiny Vic Vipers that follow it. But we're not talking about a R-Type Final number of ships or anything.

3. You can battle Medusa, but your character has to look at her.
She's a stage 3 boss. Honestly I originally intended this as a reference to the side-scrolling shooter design...

4. This game is decidedly not for good boys and girls.
5. ...as one could tell from the title, amongst other things.
I hope this is self-explanatory enough. hahaha

I honestly had my guess from like line 2 and was scrolling down the thread hoping nobody else had guessed it yet. 😁 Anyway I’m ending a lunch break, but I’ll think up something and get back to this with a new round soon-ish.
