Animal Crossing... hopefully not needing to specify because they're all the same.
Correct! I was thinking about NH in particular, but yeah.

1) Where are all the other humans?
Mostly everybody else is an animal.

2) Well, you might have a co-op buddy along - and the internet is filled with other human players, too. But human NPCs? Nope.
There are some exceptions to the first answer, but most of the time, you're the only human - the NPCs are anthropomorphic animals (weirdly, there are "real" animals in the game too, such as birds, reptiles, and fish)

3) Despite this, there's no lack of friendly company
All of the animal friends on your island / village are friendly enough, at least if you get to know them.
4) What do you mean you can't just go to sleep in your bed and wake up next morning?
The game follows the console's clock. Several kids with whom I've played the game have expected to be able to go to sleep to get to the next day (and renewed resources), but you can't do that. You need to wait until the next morning in real life to get to the next morning in the game.

5) If it rains in real life, does it rain in the game too?
Once kids understand that a) the game follows the real-life clock (and seasons) and b) has weather effects like rain and snow, usually the question they have is whether the weather patterns in the game reflect the weather outside your house. Sadly, this is not the case.

That could be an interesting update - now that all consoles have networking, tell the game your nearest city and let it look up local weather and match it - though it would also create new problems, like if you physically live in a desert environment the game would have to give you some option to change the weather so you're not near-permanently locked out of getting things that show up in rain or whatever.

(She/Her)
1) A key mechanic is playing dress-up.
2) Something that I'm pretty sure was a feature of every single game in this series just went away suddenly in this one.

I was gonna say TWEWY for the first clue, but the second definitely doesn't apply, so uh, FFV?

3) There's a big splashy song and dance number towards the middle too.

5) That ending really feels like it needs to be discussed a lot in therapy. Is there throuples therapy?

Purple

(She/Her)
Yes!

1) A key mechanic is playing dress-up. Some moons require you to wear certain outfits.
2) Something that I'm pretty sure was a feature of every single game in this series just went away suddenly in this one. No lives. No 1-up mushrooms either although I guess technically those weren't in 2 US either.
3) There's a big splashy song and dance number towards the middle too. It's pretty great!
4) PRETTY sure that's not Yoshi. There are giant T-Rexes that you can kinda ride, but I'm pretty sure they have no relation to Yoshi.
5) That ending really feels like it needs to be discussed a lot in therapy. Is there throuples therapy? If you haven't seen it I'm not gonna spoil it, but yeah, lot to unpack there.

Johnny Unusual

4) Or maybe... Antichristmas presents?
1) The game was released in 1995 and was set in 2005.
2) Basically, different characters are offered their hearts desire by a demon-like dude. One character asks for $1,000,000 (but only to she can get close to and kill the game's organizer), a taxi driver gets to be immortal and the game's evil clown icon Sweet Tooth merely asks for a paper bag, because he's wacky.
3) The game is set on Christmas eve.
4) the game's organizer is implied to be a demon of some kind, or at least in league with them.
