The Video "Game"

1. I think the developers overestimated the advance of civilization...
2. ...f.ex. with the single-person portable infinite capacity water tank
3. As far as I've seen (have never actually completed the game) "enemy" "behaviors" are pretty cleverly implemented, given the limited nature... although some definitely stretch suspension of disbelief, mainly the bosses.

5. Another one: ubiquitous robots! Although the robots themselves seem to be at a believable contemporary tech level (again, as far as I've seen).

6... hard to tell their function or level of intelligence, though, when they're all on fire & going haywire, just moving around at random.

8. A subjective one, but some aesthetic elements remind me of Resident Evil, mainly the map. This game came out a few years earlier, though.

9. Elaborating a bit more on the 1st clue: The game is set in the future year of 2010. We're told so in the intro, and that civilization hasn't advanced much (& yet, see previous clues). A screenshot of that text has become somewhat of a meme I've seen around.

10. Free range top down on foot action shooter! But instead of bullets you shoot water, from the aforementioned infinite tank/replicator/whatever it is.

Yup!

It may be relatively unknown in the Americas, as it came out only on Japan and Europe (me I discovered through emulation though, never had the console myself).
It's pretty neat, realistic and grounded for an action game, with a plot developed through radio conversations with other firefighters and characters. Do try it out if you haven't.

1. I think the developers overestimated the advance of civilization...
"The year is 2010. Civilization has progressed little in the last 20 years" - The meme gets updated every year, apparently. 😅
2. ...f.ex. with the single-person portable infinite capacity water tank
That's the weapon you're equipped with: a hose connected to a sort of magic backpack that provides infinite water.
3. As far as I've seen (have never actually completed the game) "enemy" "behaviors" are pretty cleverly implemented, given the limited nature... although some definitely stretch suspension of disbelief, mainly the bosses.
Enemies are mainly just flames (with the exception of the haywire robots mentioned below), that you have to put out. The effort put into their variety and the believability of their "behaviour", being non-intelligent entities that still somehow attack you, is commendable. The bosses that actively go after you are a bit too much though.
4. ...another overestimated advance: live humans proximity detector.
You can find & rescue people trapped in the building and it's in your best interest to do so, since it's the only way to get healed within a level. To find them you get a "vitality sensor" of sorts that pings faster as you get closer.
5. Another one: ubiquitous robots! Although the robots themselves seem to be at a believable contemporary tech level (again, as far as I've seen).
6... hard to tell their function or level of intelligence, though, when they're all on fire & going haywire, just moving around at random.
This burning office building is full of robots! They're all on fire and going wild. They mainly look like roombas but taller, although there are some mechanical arms as well. They do look pretty realistic and contemporary, not a multi-purpose humanoid one to be seen (at least as far as I remember, I played most of the game, but it's been a while).
7. It's a case of emergency, I'm allowed to break the glass!
You can break windows with your pressured water beam, and it's very pleasant and OCD triggering. Gotta smash them all. :)
8. A subjective one, but some aesthetic elements remind me of Resident Evil, mainly the map. This game came out a few years earlier, though.
It was sth I noticed immediately when trying the game for the 1st time.
Compare The Firemen map and pinging signal thing vs RE

See clue 1.

's what it is

1. Not originally planned as part of the series.

3. Being good is its own reward also you get a flaming sword

Quest for Glory III?
Ding ding

1. Not originally planned as part of the series. After Trials of Fire the creators, the Coles, decided the story and character weren't in the right place to go to what was advertised as the third game, Shadows of Darkness. So this game was inserted into their planned quadrology and Shadows was made the 4th game in the series.
2. Start over or continuing play as before. You can import your character from either QfG1 or QfG2
3. Being good is its own reward also you get a flaming sword You can be a paladin in this game, a class that can only be earned. One of the spells you get for becoming a Paladin is a flaming sword.
