3. An opening!
4. I don't care how technologically advanced the Empire is, they shouldn't be making terrible weapons like those!
5. No one's interested in products from the Republic. I mean, we're about to go to war against them!
6. The military and the Fisherman's Guild have a lot on their plates right now.
7. I knew it. I'm never gonna have any real fun stuck inside this village. Just you wait and see! Once I figure out a way to break through the barrier, WHOOSH! I'm outta here!
8. My husband's away on business in Remiferia. He sends a little money home every month.
9. Ash Carbide--how'd you like to join Zephyr?
10. You're back in Crossbell, huh? I heard you'd gone to some school in Erebonia.
11. Due to the influence of the Great Twilight, the higher elements have become active all across the Empire.
12. Old or new, we're all Class VII here. We've got to work together.

That’s the one! I guess most people who’ve played this did so a few years back and the details have slipped away. All of my clues are lines from the game:

1. Fear not. We won't use our full strength here.

These two come in sequence in the game and I thought I’d seen someone reference them on TT before so I was expecting them to be enough. Trails is full of boss battles where you wipe the floor with the boss and then afterwards your party is exhausted and the boss shrugs it off before revealing their true power, so it was enjoyable seeing this called out in-game.
3. An opening!
This is a very common bark from your party members when you unbalance an enemy. Coincidentally I read some of the Ranma 1/2 manga recently, in which characters frequently make the same announcement whenever one of their rivals drops their guard before punting them into space. I guess this stood out to me more than everyone else.

I started getting less subtle. The game takes place in the Erebonian Empire

And war with the neighbouring Calvard Republic seems likely

I was using the very helpful searchable game script on Trails in the Database to get my quotes. I was actually looking for quotes about the Bracer Guild, which would have clearly identified this as a Trails game, but this line about the military and the fishing guild amused me so I went with it. Fishing is a pretty consistent Trails thing too.

This was an attempt to be specific to the fourth cold steel game, where this is plot relevant.

Another of the countries in the Trails world, this time by name instead of just empire/republic

Ash first appears in CS3, but this offer comes in 4.

I thought Crossbell might be a more memorable name for people who played a while ago.

This is specific to CS4.

Class VII is a Cold Steel thing

This was just so people could guess again.

I considered breaking with the quotes from in-game text thing to give a clue that it was the fourth game in its sub-sub-sub-series (Cold Steel), ninth game in its sub-sub-series (Trails), fourteenth game in its sub-series (Legend of Heroes), and Xth game in its series (Dragon Slayer), but I couldn’t figure out what X would be and I’m not sure if it’s considered part of that series anyway.
 
As soon as I saw Crossbell I knew what series it was. It was then just a matter of throwing darts until I hit the right one (I've only played Sky FC but I've heard conversations on YouTube about Trails a lot). Anyways...
