The casual vs. enthusiast playthrough might be a valid angle. I'm someone that typically only plays through these games one time, and I have no interest in sequence breaking. Or I suppose I'm not even cognizant of sequence breaking as a thing; never occurs to me as something to do or attempt. Perhaps that's why I find Dread so "linear".

They're trying to move people onto the new system, which is sorely lacking in exclusive titles.
This is probably part of it, but I also wonder how much of Dread's fragmented map design was due to some sort of memory limitation on the Switch 1. If Ravenous doesn't have to be broken up into 10 small areas because it's on the Switch 2, it will be better for it, IMO.

That said, I thought Dread was pretty great despite the map issues and I am cautiously optimistic for Ravenous.

I honestly thought the Dread map was good and the signposting was pretty ok. It's not Super, but what is?

There's a moment fairly early on, the second area I believe, where I thought I was pretty clever and found a secret passage in the left wall of an elevator room, only for it to turn out to be the critical path. If I didn't have terminal Game Design Brain and could play a game like a normal person, I never would've stopped to realize how the game subtly guided me to check out that wall and made me feel like a genius space explorer metro android.

Yeah, the trolleys were thinly disguised loading zones, but that's kinda the reality of modern games. I'd be surprised if Ravenous lacked anything of the sort even as a Switch 2 exclusive.

Well I certainly enjoyed the previous game that I'm decided someone decided to do like the chorus here.
