The Trailer Thread - Room with a Preview

It doesn't look good, but it does look strange, and sometimes that's enough.

I really hope there's a joke in the movie about them being in a boundless universe with any character you can possibly imagine except for Disney or anime.

That trailer kind of drives home why a Roger Rabbit will never happen again, as you're not going to see competitors coming together and celebrating their shared history when you can have giant conglomerates vomiting IP everywhere like a rich kid dumping their action figures out on the carpet.

Lego Movie came pretty close in that regard, but I'm sure that was fortunate to have the groundwork laid by Lego licenses. Still, it was a WB movie so even though Star Wars was in it, no way where they going to let Marvel heroes hobnob with DC ones, even in a reduced capacity.

Lego Movie is still a “toss everything in one big pile” thing, which works great for that movie. Wreck-It Ralph comes the closest, in that it features characters from different companies in a movie about the medium they’re from. I guess Toy Story as well to a small extent.

Mysterious Contraption

Honestly I'll be happy as long as the theme song still mashes up really well with every other song ever written,

The blessed tones of the Quad City DJs were in the trailer, so they may very well realize they can’t inprove over what they’ve already accomplished

Well, OK. I would have leaned harder into getting someone who was more like Glenn Howerton and less like Fred Armisen but I can kind of understand the decision there. I just think this whole show is much easier to understand as an Always Sunny B-plot than a serious reflection on the manifestations of mental illness. (To be honest, people who say they relate to these characters kinda confuse the fuck outta me.)

That the musical is by the Greatest Showman people isn't lost on me -- just like with that, the movie I actually want to watch is probably not the one they're going to give us.

Realizing what I want out of this movie is really just to watch World's Greatest Dad (2009) and pause every couple scenes to play some Carbon Leaf songs and I can do that right the fuck now

I have no idea what this is. Lesbian Fast and the Furious psycho-horror maybe? Either way, this is a good trailer.

Purple

(She/Her)
I mean, I'm definitely seeing the same aesthetic that particularly the earlier Fast and/or Furious movies employ early on where there's a bunch of girls in bikinis dancing on the hoods of cars and stuff to establish how firmly heterosexual the following movie about the deep emotional bonds forming between basically all-male car-based ne'er-do-wells/an undercover cop, but the overall vibe of that trailer looks a bit more Revenge Movie if anything.

Well with all the children's-animal-story to CGI movie conversions over the past decade I guess that was completely inevitable.

I thought there was already a Clifford movie, but I was conflating Marmaduke with the Martin Short comedy also called Clifford
