The Trailer Thread - Room with a Preview

I also love that the big reveal at the end of the trailer is apparently Hiroshi Yamauchi. It feels like they know their audience.

This teaser is absolutely delightful but I’m a bit worried the movie itself will be like 15 minutes in Barbie world and then just a typical reverse isekai for the rest of the film. I don’t want to see Barbie reacting to our world, I want to spend an hour and a half in Barbie world.

Same! I really don't want to see most of these characters in the real world, I played with these toys to imagine something other than the real world!

I’m hoping it’s a Lego Movie-type deal where the film is primarily about play and has a quick diversion into the real world to make a comment and then jump back, but the Pleasantville vibe of the dialogue makes me worry it’s going to try and ask questions it’s not equipped to answer.

But, on the other hand, they got Issa Rae on board, and I feel like she wouldn’t be involved if it were trash.

…I’m thinking way too much about this. It’s a Barbie movie.

I feel like Greta Gerwig & Noah Baumbach probably gave it an appropriate amount of consideration.

I'm saying what to the fact that Gandhi doesn't appear to be a part of the show anymore. But still very excited for this. I wish they'd give us a more concrete release date than "spring". It's spring now!

(say what.)

I feel like Apple+ is bringing out series that look like they could be interesting. It would be easy to get preachy (and may) but there's a good cast and potential for this to be pretty interesting.

Say whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

I didn't realize this was happening! I am cautiously optimistic. I know it said Miller and Lord are involved again, but are they actually writing and directing or just producing?

Speaking of Miller and Lord,

Can't find any info about directing, but they're executive producing and writing (at least some of the episodes) as well as reprising their original roles as JFK and Scudworth, respectively. And another original writer, Erica Rivinoja, is the showrunner.

Banner year for Dracula...

They really went with "slowed down version of Bullet With Butterfly Wings." Are they trying to trick us in to thinking it's a Zack Snyder movie?

That looks really bad on top of the 3 or 4 different things that have me saying "really?" about the premise, but the questionable trailer music did at least make me laugh.

I dunno, I kind of like the idea of remaking Alien, set on an 1800s sailship with Dracula as the xenomorph.

I agree but I'm also open to the possibility it's a decent movie with a poor trailer trailer since the director has done a number of well-received movies at this point (Trollhunter, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, The Autopsy of Jane Doe). But that music is so ridiculous.

I think the premise could be cool because that chapter of the original novel is so spooky yet leaves so much unsaid. But the second I saw a happy dog in the trailer I turned it off because I figure something terrible is going to happen to that poor dog.
