no because i am utterly convinced at this point that a switch 2 is on the way in the next year or so, i'll stick with my launch switch for the time being.

I’ve never bought a limited edition console. I prefer less busy designs. That Switch does look sharp, though.

I’m curious about when Switch 2 is coming as well. If it’s backwards compatible and has the same general form, I might pick one up.

I usually wait for the announcement of a new generation system and its features before I buy the "final" version of its parent. Sometimes the new system is wholly backwards compatible and will completely usurp the previous system. Sometimes the new hotness drops enough features that I'm going to want the old one around forever. Wait and see...

Note that I held off on the New 3DS for the longest time because I wanted confirmation that the Switch wasn't going to include some way to play 3DS games on the big screen...

Kazin

did i do all of that?
(he/him)
Nope, don't want the system or the game. System looks too busy for me, I'd prefer the plain white OLED Switch. Game looks mediocre like the first one, my wife will probably end up buying it anyway, but I'm in absolutely no rush to play it.

I got an OLED already, and if I didn't I'd probably hold off for the next console at this point unless my current Switch broke down.

I have two Switches and zero Zeldas, so I think that's a no

Was going to try and 100% Bayonetta Origins, but I completely forgot there was a time trial mode for some of the Tir na Nogs and it looks like the last 3% is locked to getting the top time on those, which... nah I don't wanna do that...

*This post was not worth its own thread.

I don't expect eFootball to have a fully-licensed mode representing the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup but when you can play as off-brand MLS teams and it has a full USL license, not having an event that maybe they call the "American Soccer Cup" in the style of the, uh, nations cup event they had at the end of last year feels like a completely wasted opportunity. Seriously, if you're including the J2 league and you have the USL player and team licenses, why aren't they available as authentic teams yet?

I'm probably due for an updated Switch. But, like @Aurelia, I'm holding out for the Switch 2. Unless of course they make it incompatible and then I'll have to buy a new switch and switch 2.

Nah. Two Switches is enough. I do need better D-pads (or ANY D-pads) for the Switches I have, though. I would play my Switch Lite so much more if only the D-pad on it didn't suck, and I've heard adding just two millimeters to its size makes such a big difference. I'm not sure how to accomplish this without just draping two layers of tape onto the D-pad, or opening the Switch Lite and replacing it with a 3D printed one (and who even makes these?).

I'd actually be surprised if the next console isn't backwards compatible with Switch games.

I wasn't expecting a dinosaur theme park from the Horizon Forbidden West DLC, but its presence is delightful.

Yeah I think it'd be utterly baffling for a Switch successor or pro console to not be BC with its library. Would definitely stop me from picking one up in its first few years for sure.

If past experience tells us anything, it's that the next two systems Nintendo releases will also be Switches.

honestly, its the best thing they could do.

however id be cool with an out of nowhere 3ds successor too, because hey why not.

I recently re-played Land of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse. It was a childhood favorite on Game Gear, and my guess was that it would not hold up well at all. However, I was totally wrong. That game is phenomenal.

It has a map screen that's mostly linear, but sometimes asks you to try a different branch or go back to a previous level. You gain abilities that persist throughout the game, and come up surprisingly often. The stages become trickier as you go, and some of the later ones have decent puzzles. And, the brief vignettes after beating each level do just enough to tie things together. It's a really solid platformer, with just enough other stuff to keep it interesting without being a distraction.

This playthrough was the Master System version. I also played the Master System Sonic Chaos recently. Now I'm looking into what Master System games I missed.

I remember borrowing that game, and being stuck, because I had no instructions that would tell me I could attack creatures below me with my butt, or something. Learned that through trial-and-error. Should replay it sometime, I liked it a lot, back than. Glad to know that it held up.

I never played Land of Illusion, but thought that Castle of Illusion was fantastic (Gen/MD version). The remake was Fine, but the original was a preorder bonus, and stupidly locked behind the preorder and not a separate purchase.

Just checked out a long play of Land, and it seems to hew closer to the Ducktales playbook than World did, which always felt more like a European style platformer. Still looked fun!

i loved the original castle of illusion, had the combo pack that came with that and Quack Shot as a kid. Sadly the cartridge stopped working very fast as it was preowned, but it was a great game (hell, i still own it now i should see if it was my MD causing the issues someday).

I never owned a Game Gear and only half-remembered a couple of games (...mostly Shinobi) that a friend had owned, until I started trying out the rom collection on my various handhelds. It sounds like Land of Illusion should get jumped to the top of the list.

Castle of Illusion Gen/MD is a lovely little game but the Master System game of the same name is unquestionably the superior experience.

Oh, I didn't realize they were different. It looks like I played a bit of the Genesis version and then quit after a couple of stages. I just looked up the Master System game, and it looks similar to Land of Illusion. I had no idea that existed, I'll add it to my list.
