RIPS V4. It has an OSD and you can make custom colour palettes, which I really like.

The only thing I'd do differently is I'd like to get another glass lens and adhere it with glue or something instead of the adhesive gasket it came with. The adhesive was tricky to apply and ended up a little bit warped, plus a tiny bit of it is visible at the top of the screen. I specifically went with a completely clear lens because I didn't want to cover up the artwork underneath.

yeah holy shit, I love that!

I did the Q5 mod on my GBC and it looks amazing. The vias weren't the easiest thing to solder but it looks incredible and it's well worth it. I ordered direct from FunnyPlaying and it was pretty cheap and got here really quickly. The screen is just beautiful and really high quality, it's almost comical comparing it to the original.

One thing I will recommend is don't go for a transparent shell. The base of the screen is clearly visible and it's very not stock.

Yeah, that rules. Atomic purple really does always look good!

Also the screen peeking out the bottom doesn't bother me at all, in either your GBC or my own.

Thanks guys! I'm getting used to it, it's just not what I expected.

The Game Boy Colour is a favourite of mine, it feels great to improve it. The screen is a lot bigger, without feeling oversized. It still looks like a GBC.

It seems a lot of the trouble I had with Pokemon Trading Card Game on Gameboy when I was a kid was I didn't quite grasp just how random it is. I mean, yes, it randomizes what cards you get when you start a match, but it's not just that - as far as I can tell, you can't even savescum, as all coin flips are predetermined when you start the match. At least it seems to be that way - no matter how far back I savescummed, coin flip outcomes were always the same. Which is fine, I don't have a problem playing the game straight (and honestly, savescumming would make the game trivial), but what it amounts to is the game can just decide without you knowing that you're going to lose every coin flip or whatever. Kinda sucks. Means that basically you just reset over and over again if you get a bad initial draw, which gets tiresome pretty quick.

Anyway I have 3 badges now lol

Has anybody played the fantranslated sequel? I have it, but figured I'd give the original a good try before moving on to that one. Is it any good/better than the first?

the coin flips are predetermined, but the order is determined at the start of the match and it doesn't matter what the coin flips are actually for, so if you know there's four tails coming up in a row, you can just avoid coin flips and let the AI take those four losses.

Also get yerself some Hitmonchans. I'm currently grinding out the last non-Promo card I need and my deck is almost entirely built around Scythers and Hitmonchans. Coupla Kangaskhans in there for good measure.

I really wanna try that sequel!

Couldn't you just not use cards that require coin flips?

I remember the usefulness of Scyther being directly proportional to the number of double colorless energy cards you had. I also remember Seel being a good but not great card to use.

A *lot* of my cards have coin flips lol. Guess I need to grind, grind, grind booster packs or something.

I wonder if it'd be possible to hack the game to make the coinflips truly random lol

Also @Tegan if you don't want to buy a flashcart, there's always this...

Anybody tried the TV Out from this GBA IPS kit? I heard it was confirmed to be 240p output (as opposed to an interlaced signal), so although it is composite video it sounds like it could be decent? I intend to hook up to my CRT.

Any experience with their rechargeable battery mod? It doesn't support charge & play but if it works well otherwise that's all that really matters.

Thanks!!

Two of the rare GBA mods I have no experience with! lol

re: the rechargeable battery mod - that looks very similar in terms of installation to the Gameboy DMG ones I have (both regular sized and XL), and installation was fairly simple, if a bit fiddly. I really like it, though, as the charge lasts for a while and it's nice not to have swap batteries around constantly. Granted, I don't know if any of that applies to the GBA one haha

I hear the GBA IPS kit is pretty good:

(Backing up carts before I swap the battery. I know it won't erase the save, but the RTC won't reset unless I start a new game so...)

Is that an original Slag?

I was just thinking about the GBA connector cable the other day when I played the Crystal Chronicles remaster. I wish, in retrospect, I'd had an friend circle at that point who could have used them in their original glory.

I believe both of those are recent Studio '86 releases of Slug (name changed) and Grimlock.

Man, the Brits and their taking away perfectly good American English words. (But yes, probably a good idea to change it after looking it up.)

I believe IRL it is considered a profanity or at least a not polite term across the pond.
Yes, it's been very rude for as long as I can remember, predating G1. It also means the detritus left when driving up coal or smelting ore here, but having a Dinobot called "woman who sleeps around a lot" was certainly a choice. It's not the type of rude word used for fun, either. It's the deadly insult variety.

I think in the context of smelting ore, it actually makes a lot of sense. We're talking about metal robots here, after all. But... yeah, maybe a little research would have been nice. Did they change it for the UK release back in the day? I know that the Transformers comic ran a lot longer than it did here, for instance.

Nope. He was called Slag here.

There's a long list of unfortunate names in history, often involving cars. The Nova "doesn't go", Toyota's MR2 basically being "shit" in French, and Sega is slang for "wank" in Italian.

Better than that time Reebok named a women's running shoe, the "Incubus"...
