So I get the frustration at 3D All Stars being a limited time release, but I think perhaps the internet overreacted to it perhaps just a little bit. Case in point, people are now trying to scalp the game for hundreds, in some cases even thousands, of dollars online. It’s still readily available at retailers until their last shipments dry up and there is like 8 million plus used copies in the wild. It’s not a rare collector’s item.

Huh, I swear I looked into it a while back and they said if they couldn't fix a joycon they would send you back the same kind - a friend had the pikachu/eevee edition and started getting drift. Maybe they changed it recently?
Yeah, I was looking into buying the screwdrivers to open this up and saw a lot of posts saying they got the same colour back.

This is the exact text on the repair form: Please note that if your Joy-Con can’t be repaired, it may be replaced with a standard color Joy-Con (Gray, Neon Blue, or Neon Red). Maybe it's just to cover them if something goes wrong.

I decided to just risk it and send it in.

Is there no way to pre-order games using eShop credit? I just added an eShop card I got but there doesn't seem to be a way to charge my eShop account instead of my credit card when pre-ordering.

I think you have to chose to redeem coins when paying. But I don’t have my credit card associated with my account, so my options may be different

Coins are there but the eShop funds weren't showing up as an option.

I found it though, from the main eShop page on the Switch open the account information menu with your profile pic, then scroll all the way down to "payment method for automatic renewal/preorders" and change that to "available funds".

It's dumb that this isn't just on the store checkout page for individual transactions. The eShop is so weird.

The Famicom Detective Club remakes look interesting, but not $35 interesting, even with the $10 discount for buying both. If it was $20 or less I wouldn't think about it, but paying $35 to $60 for visual novels not named Phoenix Wright isn't something I do every day. Are they really that good to warrant the price?

This is, I suppose, not the venue for it, but I quibble with defining Phoenix Wright as a "visual novel." It's an adventure game, like Snatcher. The player has to accomplish things to move the story forward, there's a fail state, etc.

I know genre defining is a fool's gambit, but I always considered the visual novel part of the whole adventure game umbrella, with visual novels being their own branch off of Roberta Williams early work in Japan that started with stuff like FDC, then evolved into Portopia and then branched out from there. Snatcher to me feels like it clearly descended from Portopia, with less focus on puzzle solving like you'd see in a Western game likes King's Quest and more deduction based on figuring out where to go next. It's just the 'novel' part replaced with full voice acting. In the same token, Phoenix Wright also feels like a clear descendant of FDC/Portopia as well, it's just that the visual genre novel's been experimenting with additional gameplay for a long time now (also see: Radical Dreamer's RPG battles).

Yeah I mean especially those early crime drama ones still had the whole look/touch/sniff interaction options

Given the effort put into the animation for these remakes and that this is the first time FDC has been officially localized, personally I consider $35 each with a discount for both to be pretty reasonable.
I mean, there's worse visual novels trying to sell for more money on the eShop.

I am often one to criticize Nintendo for overpricing shit but I agree that this one is pretty reasonable

Are we getting a physical release of Famicon Detective Club in the west? Because that’d make the price more palatable to me.

I’m waiting to see if this happens. I doubt it, but once NOA confirms it’s digital only I’m absolutely pre-ordering these games.

They are quite special, and the remakes look fantastic.

I got it back, same colour (possibly same joycon, it just says "part replaced"), yay! But it still won't scan amiibo. Boo!

I tried it on my spouse's Switch and it didn't scan amiibo but his right joycon did on my Switch, so I have that option and the pro controller, it's just bizarre that this is happening.

Blizzard Arcade Archives has a free update now that adds Lost Vikings II (SNES Only) and RPM Racing, which is pretty neat. Finally going to get a chance to beat the sequel.

I don't know how There Is No Game is supposed to work on a video game console, but I am excited to find out!

And Fez! Didn't expect that!

I guess I'm mainly interested in: Road 96, The Longing, There Is No Game, Aztec: Forgotten Gods, Skul, Labyrinth City

Oxenfree 2!!! And TMNT looks fantastic. That was a great showcase of lots of interesting stuff quite apart from those two.
