Octopus Prime

Mysterious Contraption
(He/Him)
Spelunky 1 and 2 some time next year
Cyber Shadow next month
Among Us and Grindstone later today

Some other stuff as well, but that's what made me go "OH BOY!"

I was most fascinated by that single player Among Us looking VN. Procedurally generated VN sounds really, really interesting.

It’s apparently critically acclaimed in Japan. I was mainly distracted by the mispronunciation of the name.

A host of weird, undercooked ideas in DKC3.

Kiddy can smash through cracked floors if thrown upward. This is used maybe twice.

Kiddy can bounce on the surface of water like skimming a rock. This is used maybe twice.

Ellie is scared of rats and panics in the opposite direction when she sees them. This is used maybe twice.

Hero Coins are now carried by an enemy named Koin and used as a shield, requiring them to be hit from behind with a barrel in order to get their coin. Clever idea. But mostly, they're just stood in front of a wall, so you throw the (often infinitely respawning) nearby keg at said wall, getting it effortlessly. It's actually rare that there's any strategy required besides this.

Long, banal games of Simon hidden in invisible caves on the world map. Crackers.

Dull as ditchwater fetch quest with the Bear brothers all over the map.

Just generally gimmicky as all get out, with tons of bizarre stuff like the level with the fish you have to feed, the level where you move in super slow motion and jump high, the level where your controls are reversed, etc etc. Worth playing once, though.
I enjoyed Eveline Fischer's soundtrack for DKC3. It's fits in well with David Wise' prior Kong themes but feels wholey unique on its own.
Here are some restorations done by Sam Miller:

The katakana on Gnosia definitely say グノーシア (gunooshia), so I'm pretty sure pronouncing the G is correct

I guess the devs may well intend it to be pronounced “g’no shea”, but in both the medical term they are referencing and the Greek word it is derived from the g is silent except when prefixed.

The good news is that since it's the title of a game they can pronounce it the way they want, so they're correct!

lol

Polygon's Rush Frushstick interviewing Doug Bowser said:
I wanted to specifically talk about a strategy that Nintendo is doing with Switch Online, regarding the sunsetting I don’t know what the exact terminology is, but effectively, games that are no longer available after March 31, 2021. What is the logic? Why is that good for consumers?

Yeah, I think I use a simple word: celebration.

That answer is one hell of a dodge. What the hell are they doing

I mean he was obviously never going to answer question because the reality is that there is no answer that will make the company look good, it's just such a funny response that I literally laughed out loud.

The only answer that makes sense would be "These games will be back after then and we'll charge more for them." Which would also encourage people to pick them up now. The continued dodging is mystifying.

There have been ~~rumors~~ that sometime after next March Nintendo's gonna shake up how they're handling their back catalogue to be more sensible. Part of me wishes that were true, but another part of me knows that's too good to be true.

Kazin

did i do all of that?

I read that as them not wanting to admit they're just doing the Disney Vault thing with their games

I think the problem is that there's no answer that looks good. Either they're doing the Disney Vault (bad), or they're lying about doing the Disney Vault (also bad, even if I would prefer this).

Yeah, “Our anniversary games are always limited time releases, it’s just tradition.” ain’t exactly a good one either, even if that one seems the most likely to me.

I guess cartridge costs are going down? Such a weird thing to be localizing this late in the Switch’s life cycle if true. I recall from the Japanese demo it didn’t have the same level of polish in the down porting that 11 S did, and the Switch is not exactly lacking in quality Musous.

Yeah hopefully it gets fixed up a bit if it's true. I'll find out as I bit on the preorder, lol.
