In 1977, new Atari games cost $40. At the same time, gas was around $0.60 per gallon. $70 for a new game in 2023 is actually cheap. Game prices have been due to go up for a super long time.

I said as much on Discord but my assumption is that the price for the new Zelda in this case is largely 'cuz it'll be on a larger capacity Switch card than BotW was. Nintendo likes to keep prices similar between digital and physical and a number of indies that went physical did see higher digital prices on Switch 'cuz of that.

This policy is also why so many physical third party Switch compilations resort to the ever-so-fun "You have to download most of the compilation" thing in international markets.

This is exactly me. Looks like the best kind of remaster; it looks like you remember it looking, but actually hugely better
Six years after Breath of the Wild and we get “Ganondorf is back and Zelda is in trouble again”. I thought Calamity Ganon was Ganondorf, just all bestial with rage? Eh, Nintendo hasn’t known what to do with Zelda’s plot since Wind Waker.

Also, seventy dollars!?
I feel playing Zelda for the story is like reading Playboy for the articles. Anyway, there's potentially thematically strong stuff there if they fancy touching it. The Kingdom was literally destroyed by ancient hate. Was it expected to just evaporate after good won?
Rather than call all fans of the series pedos (I don't like that shit either), you mind just saying you hate the art next time? It'd be way less assholeish of a way to express your opinion. Thanks!
Asking somebody on the internet to assume a less extreme position in 2023? My sweet summer child 😜

oh wow it's actually the style savvy developers. too bad it looks like it stripped out the storyline boutique owning in favor of just walking around and telling people you think their outfits suck
Boo. One of Nintendo's silent best franchises gets a new game and they do this to it?

I GENUINELY can't get how you are all able to just overlook that.

Super easy, barely an inconvenience. You just press left or right once at the portrait screen and never worry about it again.

Etrian Odyssey released in the dark ages of JRPGs when titles were diminishing in quantity and quality. If it came out today brand new I imagine the potraits would be a bigger sticking issue, not only because of change in values of the audience but a change in the amount of options available.

So played a bit of the Prime remaster and the hybrid gyro mode combines the gyro with the classic controls. Pretty sure most people who would have wanted gyro would have wanted dual stick controls along with it...

I don't think "I don't like the art" quite gets across my complaint that the art literally features 11 year olds in fetish gear.

Like.

I GENUINELY can't get how you are all able to just overlook that.
I mean I get being pissed off about the art and have no issue with you or anyone voicing that, but there is a difference between "liking a game that has art in it that is fucking gross" and "being aroused by that gross art" and I took issue with you implying pretty much outright saying that everyone who likes the series falls in that latter category, which is ridiculous.

A bunch of GB/GBA games and Metroid Prime Remastered, and I'm spending my time playing through Alone in the Dark GBC for the first time. This game is weird as hell, GBC Resident Evil style but with sprites over very blocky pre-rendered backgrounds. Somehow it compels me.

Looked at the estimated file size on the website and it's ~18GB, so that would make sense. Guess they couldn't manage to squeeze under 16GB.

Okay well if a game is designed to appeal to perverts it is by definition a game for perverts hence my wording.

But I see how that could be read, and I would like to formally clarify that I do not think you, or anyone else on this forum is a pervert. I apologize for implying as such, even accidentally.

I do not apologize for anything else I said because fuck Etrian Odyssey.

It's appreciated, thanks.

Fair enough! haha

Looking at some (extremely positive and borderline gushing) comparisons, the Metroid Prime remaster to me feels like the BluePoint Demon's Souls remaster, where they've used new technology to filled in the gaps that I used to augment with my imagination, in order to create something much less interesting than the game that only existed in my head, and the extra detail and focus on realism also removes the room for imagination and interpretation. It's like seeing a bad stage adaptation of a play you love to read.

I like the look of the Remaster for the most part, but a lot of the choices with regards to color grading and lighting feel bizarre . If nothing else, it at least assuages my fears regarding Prime 4's graphical fidelity/performance (assuming it's going to be remotely the same kind of game lol).

The real issue with the remaster is that it's based off of the Trilogy version, which means that Retro still hasn't returned to god's light (Space Jump First).

Nintendo is a ruthless corporation and not to be trusted, but existing for over 120 years has given them a willingness to prioritize employee development and retention that other companies should really imitate.

APPARENTLY, the dual stick control scheme has its own separate gyro option in a different part of the control config. Unintuitive, but hey, that fixes my main complaint if it works well.

The Baten Kaitos Remaster seems cool and all, but what a poke in the eye to those of us hoping for Skies of Arcadia.

Watch what you wish for. If Etrian HD is any indication, SEGA remasters the original Dreamcast version and charges you 70usd for that pleasure.

Not really an apt comparison. The Etrian Odyssey Untold games are similar to the DS originals but they’re not the same games. They have different maps, for instance.

It’s also well worth $80 to get three Etrian Odyssey games. I also think it’d be worth $70 for Skies of Arcadia. Well, maybe not with the original encounter rate.

Friendly reminder that paying $50 for Skies of Arcadia back when it was released in the year 2000, is the equivalent of paying $86 today. (Even if you ignore pandemic-fueled inflation, it would have costed $75 in 2020).

Pfft, like anyone would charge anything that isn't a multiple of 10. (Not counting download/indie titles.)

Games are underpriced these days. Games targeting a smaller niche would be more viable at higher price points, resulting in an artistically healthier market. However, the only ones capable of moving first to raise the price ceiling are the big publishers, who are the least constrained by that kind of viability and the least likely to take advantage of it in any way that might redound to a benefit for consumers.
