(not criticizing the release btw, just observing that the original delay was always going to inevitably be hypocritical one way or another—absent the unexpected development of world peace, either they were going to release it during another war that nintendo's target audiences cared less about, or when people stopped paying attention to the initial cause of the delay. it turned out to be the latter.)

It's probably kind of ridiculous how excited I am about Metroid Prime Remastered, given how many times I've already played through the original version. I do hope they offer a Metroid Prime Trilogy Wii-style motion control scheme, though.

Metroid remastered is cool. Nobody is going to buy the expensive online for game boy advance games, Tears of the Kingdom was always gonna rule but I'm not sure about Ganondorf's voice. Fuck Etrian Odyssey.

I will never understand the deep love this forum has long expressed for Etrian Odyssey.

Fuck Etrian Odyssey.

It's just a dungeon crawler for perverts.
It's not a huge burden to not pick the pervy portraits when you play the games. And anyway, these remasters seem to completely replace all the character art with new stuff that doesn't look pervy.

Prime, the Octopath II demo and GBA are already available but they haven't put up regular Game Boy yet, which is weird.

Edit: Never mind, found it. It's a little more difficult to find than GBA for some reason.

Six years after Breath of the Wild and we get “Ganondorf is back and Zelda is in trouble again”. I thought Calamity Ganon was Ganondorf, just all bestial with rage? Eh, Nintendo hasn’t known what to do with Zelda’s plot since Wind Waker.

Also, seventy dollars!?

Anyway, good Direct, although only one new thing is added to my list (Fantasy Life i). All the rest are things my spouse or I are already interested in (Breath of the Wild 2, Blanc, Pikmin 4, Sea of Stars, Octopath Traveler 2, FE Engage expansion). I'll definitely check out the free Game Boy stuff, can't see a reason to pay to play the GBA games. I don't think I play Splatoon 3 often enough to justify the expansion pass but I really think it sounds cool to revisit the old towns.

Are we sure that’s Gannondorf? I can’t remember if we ever heard for sure.

The character portraits in EO have always been the worst part. You can generally avoid them for your party, but some NPCs are awful too. They’re great games otherwise.

I guess I can follow up on my mild predictions?
  • Fire Emblem Engage - Not so sure about Camilla, but the other DLC Emblems feel like solid choices for characters and mechanics. (Though I haven't really done much Fire Emblem DLC and I feel like that trend of non-participation is gonna continue.)
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - The Yoshi's Island course and music are absolute nostalgia bait and I'm hooked. I might actually have to pick up the DLC or worse, actually go in on the Online Expansion Pass in order to also play the GBA games they're adding into that package.
  • Splatoon 3 - There'd better be more to Wave 1 than the Inkopolis Plaza to get me to buy in at this point. I'm probably going to purchase when Wave 2 comes out regardless, but I can totally wait if that's where the vast bulk of the value ends up. (And hey, it might also get lumped into the Online Expansion Pass like the Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion did.)
Other than those, interested in picking up the Advance Wars 1+2 remake when it releases, and tentatively interested in how the Etrian Odyssey remakes make the transition in terms of mechanics. Will they fix and rebalance skills in any way? I'm already feeling a bit meh on the typefaces used, they don't look nearly as good as the ones used in the 3DS titles.

Miscellaneously, it feels like Pikmin 4 might be analogous to 2, as 3 was to 1? I've only played 3, but enjoyed it quite well for two playthroughs and most of the missions. And I'm mostly okay with MSRP going up on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? Game dev is expensive and getting moreso, so it's about time for prices to go up. But then again, I do plan on picking up some vouchers from the Online plan so it's not a really relevant issue for me? The voice over in that trailer was pretty cryptic, especially that last line. Maybe Ganondorf's going to team up with the good guys in some way? Or is that over thinking things?

it would have been even less of a burden for them to not put pedo shit in their game in the first place.

GB and GBA online give you multiple viewing options, you can choose to keep a smaller window and not stretch and to make the GB screen dimmer if you want it "authentic." Of course, this is Nintendo, so re-mapping the controls from within the app is strictly forbidden.

Only difference in the Japanese apps is they got Nintendo's mahjong game instead of Alone in the Dark

A very good one, with great balance, character customization, and mapping.

for perverts.

Rather than call all fans of the series pedos (I don't like that shit either), you mind just saying you hate the art next time? It'd be way less assholeish of a way to express your opinion. Thanks!

i only watched the direct because people i consider unlikely to get worked up over nothing seemed to think the rumors of a baten kaitos 1 and 2 remaster being announced were credible. and lo,

basically i never watch these and even when it's stuff i might well buy/play (of which there were a few here...) i don't usually see the point, i'd usually rather see people's reactions on twitter

but i'm glad i got to experience a truly surreal moment for myself, especially because i was in a zoom meeting anyway. sometimes i still wonder how those games are real

also twitter had a coughing fit anyway so i guess that wouldn't have worked this time anyway

I don't think "I don't like the art" quite gets across my complaint that the art literally features 11 year olds in fetish gear.

Like.

I GENUINELY can't get how you are all able to just overlook that.

Caved when I saw the Prime remake included gyro aim and bought it digitally (both in a style emulating the wii-mote/nunchuk with joy cons and the more conventional gyro style like in Splatoon).

Also just noticed that Tears of the Kingdom is voucher eligible. Almost like they're incentivising me to buy it that way...

I was happy when I saw that the remake has new art, and then sad when I saw that it’s just one new portrait per class. And, the Japanese trailer shows some designs that are not really an improvement.

I’ve always been ok with picking among the decent portraits for my party, which is like a minute out of dozens of hours of play. But at the same time I agree that it’s a problem. The games are really pleasant dungeon delvers with good monster designs otherwise. It’s too bad they have such a glaring flaw.

Let's review.

Vampire Survivors and its DLC are on Switch right-the-heck now! They're not, so no regrets paying about $6 to get the game and its DLC over on Xbox recently.

Showcase of the next Mario Kart 8 Deluxe courses! This happened and Birdo was also allowed to escape the confines of Mario Kart Tour. Hopefully more shall follow her; Pauline and Dixie Kong deserve better.

First peek at the first of the upcoming free Sonic Frontiers DLC! Nope, but a new Samba de Amigo game was announced. Hopefully Joy-Con motion controls will be better than Wiimote + Nunchuck for shaking maracas.

Some unannounced Square Enix remaster! Nope but there's remasters of the Baten Kaitos games which were made by Monolith Soft (which has people who used to work for Square) and tri-Crescendo (tri-ACE's music folks) so partial credit.

New Splatoon 3 mode(s)! They covered some of the DLC and it has a return to the Inkopolis hub from 1 and a teaser for a new mode which I'm almost certain is
a story mode for Marina
.

A brief "Hey this still exists" video for the new Zelda! This happened and I am simultaneously excited for vehicles and disappointed that it indeed looks to be sticking to the tired old status quo of Zelda stories.

More Cloud games to yell at! Not that I know of...

Oh yeah, it's also cool that Don't Nod is doing a narrative game that isn't LiS. Excited to see what they do with the genre when the expectations of their Big Name aren't attached. Also Lena Raine is doing the music so you know that's going to rule.

A) I don't play Zelda for the plot, so eh.
B) $70 is an unwelcome pricing trend but given that cartridges ~30 years ago could run $80+ I'm not really that bothered by it. It's still far less than that in today's dollars.
