The bad news re: Legend of Mana HD is that this means they are not doing a Summer of Adventure Retro Collection - but I hope Square re-releasing PS1 titles in Switch means we can get a Chrono Cross HD with high-res assets in the future. Or, dare I dream, a Xenogears port with a fast-forward option for the dialogue scenes?

Dewprism HD or no deal

I used to think I'd rather have Monolith buy back Xenogears to insert back into their Xeno-verse (not the Dragonball one) but after reading what's up in XB2 I'm not sure I'd rather have that anymore.

I’ve basically come to peace with the fact that Xenogears will never get real sequels or remakes or even a remaster. The Perfect Works timeline will always be tantalizing, but I don’t really need Episode 1-4, Xenosaga was definitely *not* the prequel I ever wanted, Xenogears doesn’t need to be as bloated as Xenoblade, and what I really want is Episode 6, but I doubt any sequel would actually be as fulfilling as I imagine it to be.

Blizzard Arcade Collection is out on Switch. It's 20 bucks for 3 games, but it does some cool things. Each version of the game is preserved (SNES and Genesis), along with "Definitive Versions" that combine the best of both games, so you get all the levels of the SNES/Genesis versions combined along with other improvements. There's also a 4-Player version of Rock n Roll Racing Included.

I can't tell if the Definitive version of Blackthorne includes the bonus 32-bit levels, so I'm playing through the 32-bit version for the first time. These pre-rendered graphics are so awful they're kind of charming.

The bonus materials have tons of pictures and art from Silicon & Synapse/Blizzard's early days. They even have material from RPM Racing in there, but the game itself isn't included since I figure they don't own it.

I call shenanigans since none of those are arcade games!

However I call unshenanigans because those are three good games

If I get Skyward Sword HD, half the reason will be to satisfy my curiosity for how in the damn hell they managed to move the sword controls onto a stick. I just can't imagine it. It's not as simple as all the people going I-told-you-so think it is!

Maybe it uses some sort of gesture analysis to distinguish between holding the sword and swinging it. Say, for instance, a slow movement results in holding in the indicated direction, whereas a rapid one indicates a swing toward the indicated direction. This technique could also distinguish between releasing the stick to neutral (a rapid movement, indicating you want to keep the current hold) and moving it back to neutral yourself (a slow movement, indicating holding it forward), while the forward stab could be bound to the stick, and the skyward strike to a button or something. Getting consistent results from that sort of thing might take a very high sample rate, which could be what he was talking about when he mentioned the Switch's higher processing power.

A build of Dinosaur Planet was released by Forest of Illusion. Someone tell me if it's good!

I was so hype for this game as a kid. Totally lost interest once it was moved to the Cube.

You're not wrong. I'm curious to see what they did too. In my emulated playthrough, Left analog was move, right analog was sword swing... and then if you held the LB, it made left analog tilt control and right analog "aim/slow move". It works very well for any situation, again I found it easier to play the game that way, but it's not as easy as just saying "this stick is your motion stick".

Now, a great deal of the tilt control stuff in the game (loftwing, mine cart, tightrope), can just as easily be hooked up to left analog, I don't see that being a problem. But yes, distinguishing between a swing and just trying to move the sword with the right analog... I'm curious to see what they do.

That's huge, it's probably the big lost N64 game. I'll be shocked if it doesn't have similar flaws to the Game Cube release, but it's fascinating.

Even more fascinating, it has Fox McCloud as the main character, but this seems to be just implemented as the text seems more fitting for Sabre.

Between this, the Scott Pilgrim physical release, and SNK vs. Capcom, companies I had largely sworn off purchasing from are doing a bang up job tempting me this month...

Damn, my near-launch Switch is finally getting stick drift on the left Joycon. I tried updating the joycon firmware and re-calibrating the stick but it didn’t help. In fact, it’s getting worse. At first it would sometimes move up a bit but now it’s happening more often and I’ve had it move to the side as well.

Should I be worried about the right Joycon? I guess I can’t do anything if it’s not showing symptoms, right? And how long does it take for Nintendo to fix these?

I just got to the Boss Rush level in Mario 3D World. The last few levels have been a struggle, but I think I’ve hit a wall here. I’d better request a repair. I guess I’ll go back to 3DS for now.

Odds are good that the right stick doesn’t get used anywhere near as much as the left, so drift is much less of an issue there.

Not sure what the cutoff date is for replacement on the joycons, but you can get a third party replacement for the left stick pretty cheaply, and they don’t have the defect that causes Drift

Mine took around 2-3 weeks when I got it repaired, but I sent mine in shortly before Thanksgiving and so the holiday may have slowed things down for me.

So here's a question: I've never even opened my copy of Mario Maker. Is basically everything going away, including the ability to download user levels?

Per this, it sounds like you’ll still be able to download and play levels, but no one can upload new ones anymore. Though knows how long the servers will last.

It will still be a game worth playing, basically the best Wii U game ever, though a pale shadow of its former self.

My right joycon stopped scanning amiibos last week. I thought a restart fixed it, but now it's happening again. I looked into repairs and Nintendo has a note that if it can't repaired they'll send back a generic gray or red controller. I have the Animal Crossing edition so now I'm debating if I just want to keep the broken joycon and use the pro controller to scan amiibo because I really like the blue of the animal crossing set and the gray/red will look dumb.

Aren't they still sold individually, too?

And it really sucks that they can't won't just reshell it for you.

The color changes in a lot of games, and the menu. It’ll be your Switch saying “I KNOW WHAT YOU DID”

It works too... I used it to trick my switch into thinking I had the New Horizons set to get the special unlock console within New Horizons.

Huh, I swear I looked into it a while back and they said if they couldn't fix a joycon they would send you back the same kind - a friend had the pikachu/eevee edition and started getting drift. Maybe they changed it recently?
