Metroid Dread and Prime 4 were so disappointing, I almost don't care.

After all, how much time could possibly elapse between the determination of a Metroid game's title and its release?
 
We're gonna see Metroid-branded gamesoft release annually for the remainder of the decade. I can feel it.
 
I imagine this is spurred by the new EU law requiring user-replaceable batteries in all devices. They are redesigning the Switch 2 and accessories for it, and even Switch 1 joycons, but not the Switch 1 itself or some of the retro controllers.

The winding down of manufacturing is business as usual, but in light of the Total Bombardment that is happening elsewhere in video games, it's still a bit of an oof. Anyway, have you seen the cost of an Xbox or PS5 now? Switch 2 lookin' like a steal.

I believe it's this. As I understand it, they're not winding down original Switch production elsewhere, only Europe, for exactly that reason, it's not worth redesigning and changing the manufacture of that old a system when Switch 2 is their going concern. But the Switch manufacture will continue, at least for a little while longer, everywhere else where the new requirements don't exist.
 
Once they've sold through their current stock of Switch 2s, the revision with the user-serviceable battery will probably become available in all regions, too. No sense in maintaining two separate manufacturing processes for something like that. Probably just use the already-planned price hike to absorb the extra cost.
