FYI; Read the fine print on XBC:X and it appears the Switch 2 Edition is just the Switch 1 game with the upgrade pack thrown in. You can find the Switch 1 game for about $45 now, and the upgrade pack is $5, so you'd save yourself around $15 if you want to go the upgrade route instead of waiting for the Switch 2 Edition. You'll be missing a swanky red case but perhaps that's a small price to pay.

Is the upgrade pack on the cart, though, or does it have to be downloaded? That will be key to a potential future purchase for me.

Not sure. The Internet seems to think it's on the cart.

I went ahead and just bought the Switch 1 version and paid the $5. Turns it into a virtual game card game? Kinda weird. Seems to be fine - 60 fps holla - but I've also neither played the original or the original original, so I have no point of contrast.

Yeah, the Upgrade Packs that turn Switch 1 games into Switch 2 Editions are treated as DLC if you buy them digitally, and DLCs show up as virtual cards. If you have the physical NS2E, it's a red Switch 1 card with the Upgrade Pack included on the card.

It's complicated but fairly consistent for first party titles, but 3rd party titles are a bit of the Wild West.

Happy to report that the stupid piece of cardboard works perfectly on the VB games, and is very stupid.

Doesn’t appear to be a way to change from eye searing red just yet but Wario land looked pretty sweet.

Public Service Announcement: Switch 2 version 22.0 firmware includes "Handheld Boost Mode" option that runs Switch 1 games in TV mode on the handheld for proper 1080p resolution.

Be advised this disables the touchscreen and may disable gyro effects for attached joycons (but they work fine detached). Also may increase frame rate and power consumption.

No effect on Switch 2 games, Switch 2 Editions, and Switch 1 games with S2 resolution/framerate patches.

I'm a person that always wants physical media and I don't mind the physical media "tax" on these. Kinda surprised it took this long to catch on here. (Although not really because capitalism.)

Yeah, it makes sense to me too. You can have my games when you pry them off my cold, dead shelves. (?)

unless something's changed, all Switch 2 Game Key Cards are very clearly marked as such on the box

Ya know, the old conventional wisdom was that there would always be parity pricing between physical and digital editions of games, as lowering it on the digital end would make it super obvious the digital storefronts are taking the physical retailer's lunch as becoming, essentially, 100% their own publishers. Like, a Nintendo game on a Nintendo system sold through the Nintendo (Digital) Store is just straight Nintendo profit from top to bottom. Now why does Target have an incentive to sell Nintendo systems if they are only going to generate further profit for Nintendo, and never again for Target (okay, maybe somebody needs a new controller once in a while). Anyway, as a consumer, this seems like a bad thing in the long term, as it gradually leads to a walled garden like the Apple App Store, where Nintendo (or any digital storefront) 100% controls if Hentai Golf is allowed at all, and what the average price of a game must be. Target, Wal-Mart, Amazon, or Gamestop will gradually stop having a vote in this process at all.

...

Wait, I low-key hate all of those companies.

Huh

I would argue that having optimal storefront presence in 3rd Party marketplaces is a major factor in how much reach game consoles can achieve in consumer consciousness. Like, this is forum full of games enthusiasts, but how many of you can name the top three most popular Meta Quest games that aren't named Beat Saber?

Hentai Golf

The only golf game where you get to put one in a hole after you get a hole in one

Wanna be my caddy? Because you'd look great holding my nine iron

Yeah she's great in the sack but she's a real water hazard if you know what I mean

Golf is stored in the balls

Got wood?

I just want to be clear that Hentai Golf is real (do you expect that link to be entirely SFW?) and not worth the level of creativity anyone here is even accidentally ascribing to it.

Also: Some girls like it rough.
