Yeah this really seems like someone’s working directive began and ended with “please crank out an early Pixar short as practice, kthx.”

Indistinguishable in concept from an animated student film.

How weird is it if I still think of Pikmin as "new Nintendo"?

Never played one but I put it in the same place as Fire Emblem (in the States) or Animal Crossing. "New Nintendo".

I'm not sure why my brain has compartmentalized it that way outside of nostalgia reasons. Anything after 1997 or so, clearly new Nintendo.

Mario & Wario's first non-Japanese release is huge. It plays very well with the Switch 2 mouse! Play it!

Bubsy somehow having a second release on Switch 2 in as many months is huge. It plays very well with about a half a bottle of bourbon! Play it!

Lmao I was going to address Bubsy, but just... Nah. Even hammered, I'm good. I'd rather pass out

So based on the example in that trailer, the goal of Mario and Wario is to get Luigi to lift an eggshell off of Mario's head? Why can't you just take it off with your magic wand that can break rocks, which are famously harder than eggshells?

Nothing super mind blowing, though I am glad we have a firm release date for Prime 4. I hope it’s good!

I played Fire Emblem: Awakening earlier this year, and liked it enough that I’m interested in this new one.

Nice, that's a great game! It seems like this upcoming one is probably going to be closest to Three Houses, so that might be worth playing before the new one comes out? (Plus it's also a great game.)

Ironically, the biggest thing out of the Nintendo Direct for me didn't even make it to our Nintendo Direct: Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection. Ours showed Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection in its place. Protodude thinks it's because they didn't have an English build ready for a trailer yet.

Either way, I'm quite happy. Happier still that it's set for Xbox, unlike Battle Network Legacy Collection. I'll be over the moon if it gets a physical release, too. But I think even Capcom Fighting Collection 2 didn't get that.

Xbox controllers with their D-pads never felt right for me for any of the Mega Man series, though some of the 8BitDo third-party options do. But I'm glad to see it too; one thing that always stuck with me is that Star Force 1 is probably the only game I've ever played with a homeschooled protagonist, which was a unique form of relatability for me.

It's not in the trailer, but it basically starts with Wario dumping a bucket on Mario/Peach/Yoshi's head as they're trying to find Luigi. I think it might be a magical bucket, or magically stuck on, or something like that.

Can't speak to the eggshell, though. Looks like a Yoshi egg, which can be pretty hardy, though.

I never liked the Xbox Dpads until Xbox One and Series X|S, and I actually still use the former when I play.

Except when playing with Nadia. She didn't care for it, so we got one of those 8-bit Do SNES-styled options for when we stream.

Cool to hear you found a unique way to connect with the game! (I think? I've heard varying things regarding different peoples' experiences with homeschooling.)

Every set of levels, Wario drops a new item on Mario's head. Why Mario can't take it off himself is beyond me, though.

Mario would never take off a hat on purpose. That degenerate behavior is for villainous buzzards and monkeys.

Oh, I like the 8BitDo ones! Come to think of it, that's one overall advantage of Nintendo, I think: judging by the offerings available, they seem to be the most permissive with third-party controllers. Xbox has them but mostly just wired, while PlayStation just... doesn't, really.

Thanks! And yeah, it was good for me, anyway. Never really went back to regular school, either. In Geo's position Sonia probably could have talked me into it too though...

(Also the versions of SF totally should have been a Sonia protagonist mode, but that's another thing entirely.)

That really is a great set of games. All of them worth playing, especially the Game Boy Bionic Commando.

So I'm hearing, but I'm far better acquainted with the NES game (which hasn't been re-released since the bloody GBA days).

What makes this version so great? Is it better?

*Better* is kind of subjective, but I’d say it’s definitely comparable, and in the upper echelon of GB games. Levels are a bit shorter, but they feel more distinctive, graphics are much nicer, and it’s much more likely to be ported than the NES version since you don’t have to worry about the ESRB raising a stink about a graphically exploding Hitler head
