The Nintendo Gamecube: Carry on my Wavebird Son

Definitely have to play the Donkey Konga games on my CRT, because there's too much lag with my HDTV. Pretty sure it's the TV and not the bongos or HDMI out thing - it's an old plasma TV from like 2010. I'm much, much more accurate with my claps in particular on the CRT, and managed to clear a couple songs in Donkey Konga 1 without missing a note or getting a bad note.

Sure wish so many of the songs weren't nursery rhymes. Don't be that on the nose about me being far too old for these games lol

There we go. Didn't even have to use a continue this time:

Donkey Konga 2 has a much better song selection, even if I should be more ashamed of playing stuff like All Star than nursery rhymes lol

I've always wanted to play through Jungle Beat in particular.
I first played Jungle Beat at the Nintendo World Store the day before the Wii launch, and fell in love instantly. It literally competed for real estate in my mind against the brand new console phenomenon I was about to purchase, and held its own. I did not rest until l owned that game (NWS didn't have any copies besides the demo, sadly).

And yes, I played it on my new Wii once I found one.

I actually own it twice; it was an instant purchase when they released an actual Wii version. That one made some improvements that I think balance the game better overall, but with one huge detriment: no Bongo support, which would have made it definitive.

(They also took out the close-up of DK in the corner, but that may not be as big a deal for some.)

Either version is worth a play, if not both (I could never finish the GameCube one; it literally became a matter of physical limitations, as I recall), and -- alongside their Mario work -- is why I do desperately hope that the rumors of an EAD Tokyo-made 3D Donkey Kong are real.

...not to oversell it or anything.

I had to play through Mt Battle twice to get Ho-oh when I was a kid, because the first time around I got an overpowering urge to just get up and reset the Gamecube about 96 layers in (I did not resist this urge). To this day I have no idea why.

Were you mad at it or something? I've been mad at games before and shut them off before realizing it'd delete tons of progress lol

Anyway, my bluetooth adapter stopped working, all of a sudden! I booted up Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and went to adjust the volume settings (I can't hear the Prince talk at all over the music, and that's kind of necessary for the story, anyway), then all the lights turned solid blue (not something I've seen before) and I can't sync to it at all, no matter how many times I power cycle or hold the reset button in (which will reset it to factory settings after you've held it for ten seconds). Nothing! Normal controllers still work fine, so I guess I'm back to using my Wavebird? I opened the Gamecube up and everything looks fine (the ribbon cable was slightly bent in a weird way, but i removed it, fixed it, tested each end with a multimeter, and everything seems fine, plus as I said regular Gamecube controllers still work properly). I emailed support about it but I assume I won't hear back until Monday. So that sucks!

Is this a sign I'm playing Gamecube too much? ...No, no, surely not.

I wasn't! It was like when you look over the side of a bridge and feel compelled to jump off.

I had to cover up the power button on my home computer as a kid for that same reason. That feeling that you technically can do something in a split second, but not being able to suppress that impulse.

Wasting time is one of the biggest stressors I have (which is ironic considering my favorite pastime is playing fucking video games), so it's not a temptation I've ever had.

My MemCard Pro GC isn't connecting to my wireless network anymore either. I wonder if something shorted out in my Gamecube or something, for all this stuff to fail? The memory card still saves and switches cards based on whatever game I load via Swiss, but just won't connect to wifi, even on my backup Gamecube. Can't get the setup page to load either. The pico has kapton tape covering it, so it shouldn't be shorting against the bluetooth board, as far as I can tell. Not sure what else could cause all this... I'll post an update if/when I have one, still haven't heard from Laserbear yet.

The way I come to terms with "wasting time", at least regarding video games, is that they help me maintain my sanity. That, assuredly, is *not* a waste of time. :ROFLMAO:

Update on my bluetooth adapter: Laserbear got back to me (they apparently suffered some sort of emergency they haven't said anything about as far as I can tell at their headquarters, hence the ghosting me for a bit; I don't blame them, they said "no one was hurt" so whatever it was, it must've been pretty bad), and they sent me a replacement bluetooth adapter for my Gamecube, which works perfectly - as does my MemCard Pro GC. Whatever the issue was with the bluetooth controller adapter must have been causing the issues with the MemCard Pro GC, so I'm glad that's all sorted.

I forgot I was really enjoying Pokemon XD, and just played it for like three hours lol

I scored a GCLoader in the latest batch. I am excite.
Let us know how it goes - I have two Gamecubes with Picoboot installed and am quite happy with them, though the only abnormal thing I've seen is the opening video to Mario Party 5 (hardly a problem for me), so I'm wondering if the GCLoader does that better.

I'm also curious as to how it holds up compared to running off a Wii with USB Loader GX, which is what I'm currently doing.

All the first party Gamecube to GBA cables were purple, correct? I'm being a huge dipshit and getting everything orange for my Gamecube setup, including an orange GBA shell lmao
Yep, I'm a huge dipshit. Hey @Tegan look at this:

Ended up using glossy (weirdly) orange spraypaint from Lowes. I think it turned out quite well! Really the only issue is the extra layers of paint on the plastic bits on the GBA end make the clips largely useless, but then for GBA to GCN stuff that's not that big a deal anyway. The orange is fairly close, and it's all original parts still, which I like. I'm sure it won't be permanent - the paint will flake off with use, most likely - but I'll take it!

That's damn nice, Kazin!

I got Dolphin running on my new AYN Odin Pro. Gonna play some Baten Kaitos for the first time in a decade.

Heh, thanks. I wish the clips still worked, but I'm going mostly for looks anyway. The thing does still function, though - Kapp'n showed up dutifully when I booted up Animal Crossing to test it (and I haven't played in months, so I guiltily ran through quite a few weeds to check :( sorry everyone). I'm not sure how robust it'd be during, say, a Four Swords Adventures or Crystal Chronicles session, but I haven't convinced my wife yet to play the former with me so who knows for now lol. It'll transfer Pokemon just fine, which is the main reason I use the cable anyway.
