Still looks awesome. To me, they simply nailed the feeling of the mushroom kingdom, and of it being a video game movie (which is probably due to the used sound effects).

The best clip by far, and makes me more optimistic about this movie if they can keep the focus on slapstick like that.

I figured Keegan Michael Key would slap as a voice actor but I never in a million years would have predicted him as Toad. He's perfect. I love the Captain Toadness of this main Toad, too.

Pratt is definitely going for a Lou Albano vibe, which is the correct choice, even if I'm still meh on the casting.

Any more information will ruin this headline so I'm not going to look into it.

I hope the author just woke up in a cold sweat with that headline in their brain and then spent a day desperately searching for old news stories of Chris Pratt interacting with bees to reprint.

Yeah that’s ... not really what I would expect Donkey Kong to sound like. But whatever, it’s probably mostly just that one set piece.

I don’t think it’s possible to have DK talk and not sound weird.

The design is still aces, though, probably the best one in the movie.

I would have preferred him to just grunt and make monkey noises, or something, and everyone just understanding him, maybe except Mario. Oh, well, doesn't matter, still looks great.

Dang. The only deeper cut would have been referencing the 'Mario wheeeereee aaaaarrreeee yoooouuuu??' commercial.

Might be a controversial statement but this is the best thing I've seen from the movie so far; not because its a reference (one I'm not surprised someone pitched but am surprised made it assuming its in the movie) but one that makes sense and works within context of the film universe - it feels similar to the bad Ghostbusters commercials at the beginning of the movie and I hope they use it to similar effect, with either Mario/Luigi upset they spent so much money on a bad TV spot or they absolutely love it and can't understand why they're still not getting any calls.

Also - dial the phone number if you want to hear the longest sample we've gotten of Charlie Day's Luigi yet.

EDIT: Also funny to think I usually show the Super Show opening to my Game History students and how the reaction's going to change from this point on.

The testimonials on the website are funny:

Dannnng that is the most directoy-tapping-my-lizard-brain advertising I’ve seen in quite some time, well done.

Excited! This still looks like pure joy to me. Not amazing, but speaking directly to the four-year old, who had some book with puzzles or something, themed after Super Mario Bros., and fantasizing about this world. This is pretty close to what I thought it would be. Love it.

Also, I want to be able to do this in Mario Kart. Give me some platformer mode, or something.

I'm looking forward to it. I don't head to the theatre very often but I want to be the uncle of takes the kids to the movies and I'm taking my niece to this one either Easter Weekend or the weekend of my birthday (a week later).

I mean I guess the pie-in-the-sky impossible scenario would be a slapstick kids version of Fury Road that’s just set-piece after set-piece taking out the Koopalings one by one. I doubt we’d get something that fun, though.
Well there aren’t any Koopalings, but…
