I can imagine Mario being miffed at Bowser continuing to show romantic interest in Peach.

but yeah, that was kind of a weird trailer

Yoshi teaser. Also spotted: Birdo, and baby Mario and Luigi.

And Yoshi miiiiight be holding a super scope at the end if you squint?

It is a Super Scope, just recolored with Switch 1 branding, haha.

Mouser also shows up in the Birdo scene right at the end of Peach blocking the eggs. Kinda have to pause it to see him, lol.

Oh good catch, you're right.

That's interesting, Mouser is one of the elements from SMB2 they haven't really used since. Maybe we'll see more SMB2 elements that Nintendo doesn't normally make use of?

The fire flower animation was gorgeous.

The sound design in this looks like the first one and is absolutely wonderful. The slow introduction of the music as Yoshi came out of the shadows was lovely.

I won't risk going into a theater for this but look forward to seeing it eventually.

I think that's pretty clearly supposed to be Clawgrip sprawled on his back behind Peach in the same shot, too.

I noticed that sure but I wasn't set to call it that, maybe if we see said crab throwing some boulders.

Regular-ass crabs have been present in most recent Marios, but a mouse with pointy shades? That's specifically Mouser.

Yeah, and in a sequence that already shows two other SMB2 bosses, I'm gonna say why not have a third. Why not Clawgrip?

I would honestly be cool with Mouser and Clawgrip showing up more often in the Marioverse.

Mario games can always use more Critters That Throw Shit.

Oh, I didn't realize it was that soon. I'll probably take my niece and nephew Easter weekend.

Mario 2 was my first Mario game so including that stuff for the sequel definitely works for me.

I don’t know that I have a burning desire to see this movie, but I *do* really want to see Donald Glover talk about voicing Yoshi.

Total nitpick: "The Bowser name shall be feared once more!" is a weird line. I know it's because both he and his father are named Bowser, but surely you'd say either "The Koopa name shall be feared once more!" or "The name 'Bowser' shall be feared once more!"

Anyway, this looks like it could be good but I probably will not be seeing it in the theater. Aside from feeling like the first movie was mostly aimed at kids without the kind of cross-generational appeal most Pixar movies have (which is fine, not every movie needs to be for me), I deeply disliked the one Luma whose constant wishes for death were played for laughs. And now here comes a "hello, maggots" edgy prison guard Luma. Yuck. (Are they the same Luma? I don't know.) They're innocent star children! Stop corrupting them!

Counterpoint: keep corrupting them. I want to see a luma say the F-word and chug a bottle of jack.

Understandable. The first movie is what I imagined a Mario Bros. movie the look and feel like, when I was a kid.

It's definitely enjoyable as a kid's movie and doesn't really aspire to much more than that, although the plethora of visual easter eggs were enjoyable, looking forward to more of that in 2.

Counternitpick!: Koopa is more of a species, and not every one is affiliated with Bowser. Bowser in this sense refers to House Bowser I think

still mad that no grocery store i've been to has had the official Yoshi Egg cookie dough yet.

practically every other product there has been branded with the movie though.

So apparently Fox McCloud is going to have a role (cameo?) in the upcoming film, if today's news is to be believed.

Glad to see he can still get work, if nothing else.

I woke up this morning to a friend sending me the poster with no context, and my sleepy mind dismissed it as just an AI generated fan thing. Then I woke up again a couple of hours later and saw the news that it was real and everyone was reporting on it.

If they were ever going to build up to a Smash Bros. movie (which I'm not counting on), this is probably the way to do it, by introducing these characters from within their biggest franchise.

I kind of wish they had the patience to... you know, spring this on me. Like, I'm literally going opening weekend. It's not like I'm "I'm super excited for the Mario Movie!" but I like the first one OKish and I'm mildly interested in this. I'm mostly going for my niece and nephew. But this would have been a great little shock so just... advertising it kinda sucks.

It's like how in Thor: Ragnarok, the entire reveal of the Hulk being in the film makes it clear the intent this was going to be a surprise for the audience and ALL the marketing gives it away. Why can't shit be a fun surprise? I can't imagine it will actually effect ticket sales that much.
