The Matrix Thread: Stop Trying to Post and Post

Only one Wavhowski?

Has that ever happened before?

Yes, as real Sense8 heads know (there are dozens of us), it was reported that they had a falling out between the first and second season of Sense8, and they have been doing their own things since. At the moment, it seems that Lily is more interested in doing some smaller scale personal projects, while Lana is still interested in high concept spectacle driven genre fiction.

I'll watch this because it'll be there on HBO Max. I probably wouldn't go to theaters to see it. I've never been, at any point in time, a big fan of the Matrix, so I've got a strong apathy for Hollywood Apes GitS.

Very excited tho to see Dr Manhattan in it however.

I think the Wachowskis should each direct competing Matrix films with exclusive cast members in each, like Pokemon games. Matrix Resurrections: Black Version will have Neo and Trinity, and Matrix Resurrections: Green Version will have Morpheus and Agent Smith

I don't know why Warner Bros. won't return my calls

Wonder if they're gonna explain Morpheus looking different the same way they did The Oracle.

My theory is that this is a new iteration of the Matrix years in the future and that isn't even the same Neo and Trinity.

Morpheus died in the canonical MMO, so my hope is that there is no Morpheus because they are continuing to respect the canon of a 2000s era MMO because that would be hilarious and wonderful.

(Trinity is still there for... some other reason, impossible to speculate meaningfully about the plot of a series with multiple levels of reality and illusions based on a surely misleading teaser.)

I never saw The Matrix, but I remember the hype for the sequels was inescapable in the early 2000’s. Then they came out and everyone who was excited seemed to be far less enthused about the whole thing. Why is there another one, exactly?

  • they all made money
  • it's been long enough that generally even people who (wrongly, imho) thought the sequels were not good will now mostly be willing to give another sequel a shot at this point (probably was financially a good choice to stop when they did, but two decades later the market is no longer saturated with matrix sequels)
  • even the worst matrix movie (no matter which one you think that is) is still better than basically every 90s FMV game looking modern blockbuster being churned out at the moment (okay no one involved in approving a sequel probably cares about this, but i do)

edit: i think i've been playing too many Souls games recently because the way Morpheus baits an attack from the car, does a dodge roll, then hits the car's back leg with a giant katana feels extremely Souls to me now lol

did i do all of that?

I apparently didn't watch the trailer close enough, because I'm surprised everyone thinks that's Morpheus in the trailer for some reason?

It doesn't, but I'd forgive someone casually watching the trailer who sees a bald guy in dark glasses and a black jacket on screen for 3 seconds handing Neo a red pill for thinking it was.

Honestly my first thought was "oh right that's why that one bit in the middle of Bayonetta felt so familiar"

Basically in general it makes sense that people will assume that the characters who look like Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus are those characters and will refer to them as such until learning otherwise, and also because it's The Matrix it makes sense that people would be suspicious that those are really those characters.

Honestly my first thought was "oh right that's why that one bit in the middle of Bayonetta felt so familiar"

Morpheus had to do that dodge roll right before the car hit to activate Witch Time.

Even though I'm not the biggest fan of the Matrix and its sequels, they are very pretty movies and have a lot of really great action set pieces. That entire highway fight in the 2nd movie was just aces.

I kind of like the fact that 2 and 3 were actually about something but told that tale in the most willfully obtuse way possible. They aren't good films, exactly, but there's nothing else like them.
