Oh *shit*, that'd be fantastic. Let me know, thanks!I think Tim Worthington’s the only one to distribute his kits, so that’s probably the best you’ll find. Although… looking through my email, I apparently bought one for a front loader after the whole HDMI debacle, and I’ve never installed it. If I can find it, I’ll PM you.
I'm thinking about doing this next year with my NES actually, since his price isn't too bad (just want S-video, not the hidef one). How long does it typically take? I mean, it's fine regardless, but is this something that took months for you, or was it fairly quick?
Pocket is designed to be as easy as possible to develop and port FPGA cores to. We added a second dedicated FPGA just for developers to develop & port their own cores. Developers will be able to interface with Analogue OS: Library, Memories and Tools. And to Pocket hardware, I/O's and scalers.
In addition to the new features coming to AnalogueOS, Taber shared some information on the Pocket’s additional developer-facing FPGA. “Pocket has been purpose built with the optimal hardware to make development and porting pre-existing [FPGA] cores a breeze. Off-the-shelf dev boards are naturally not built for this exact purpose; they’re pricey, require tons of add-ons, difficult technical setup for most users and limitations that cannot be ideally solved (namely different kinds of RAM) without building something exactly for this purpose from the ground up,” Taber notes, clearly targeting the MiSTer platform’s DIY approach, and immense library of cores. “You can expect to see pretty much every single third-party FPGA core out there on Pocket."
“For the non-dev end user, it is as simple as dropping an FPGA core onto Pocket and it will be served by our Library and Database offering an unparalleled experience.”
I already own a Super NT, but Analogue has said that they don't plan to bring Analogue OS to that hardware.
Yeah, that's true. If the OS updates in January and I don't receive my theoretical preorder until a few months later (at best), it seems pretty likely that someone will figure out what cores this thing's capable of supporting before I get my hands on one. Might be worth putting an order in and canceling it if it doesn't end up being what I'd hoped. Still not sure!I mean, the “good” news is that even if you order it tomorrow you won’t get it for a really long time, so you could cancel your preorder if it doesn’t shake out the way you hoped.
The actual good news is that they’re doing open orders, so even if it takes years, I’ll be able to get one.
Yeah, the shipping on my Super Nt was $50 USD, and with the duties on top of that it really boosted the price of the console. It's what has kept me from getting the DAC for it, too.I’d rather not pay their astronomical international shipping fee again to get it.
