It's also on sale in Xbox, amd unlike other promotions this one is worldwide in the Switch store. I guess this is some kind of anniversary sale?

That said, weirdly enough, Obra Dinn is not on sale in PS4 (where the base price is also more expensive than in every other platform, at least in EU.. Different publishing contract?)

Obra Dinn is a GOAT and anyone who missed it the first time around and likes narrative games or solving mysteries would be well advised to snap it up. I would argue it's the best "detective" game ever made.
You've sold me on it, even though I already know from Brick's informative walkthrough that the captain ate everyone on board

Was there ever a physical release for this, or is it digital-only?

There was a physical release for the Japanese version. Unfortunately, unlike the Japanese physical version of the Capcom Beat-'Em-Up Bundle (Capcom Belt-Action Collection), it does NOT contain the english versions of all the games on it, only the ones that got OG English releases. The new translations are only on the US digital release.

You'd have to watch the video. In any case, it's clear within the first five minutes of the game that the captain did not, in fact, eat sixty other people.

But that would risk spoilers, so kind of a double-bind going on here.

I'm doing my best at media blackout, so perhaps I'll watch it later.

Okay, thanks for explaining, although I would have preferred to experience this first hand.

I'm having trouble understanding how posting a plausible fake spoiler in this thread about game sales benefits those who would be most interested, i.e., people who have yet to play it.

Yes, that Russian author.

I would accept a full series of Obra Dinn style games whenever Lucas Pope is ready to bless us.

Absolutely. It was my GOTY 2 years ago.

Sorry, I assumed anyone interested in the game would realize it was fake. The entire game revolves around figuring out the many ways those aboard the ship died. Beyond that, I'd expected that others would realize I wouldn't put major spoilers for the game in this thread. I can understand the frustration, though; I'll be more careful about this going forward.

I'm glad I had the chance to discover the mechanics for myself before seeing this.

Wait, wouldn't you want to know the basic structure and premise of a game before you buy it? That seems important? I'd want to know if a game was an adventure game versus a fighting game or whatever, everyone just saying Game of the Year doesn't tell me anything.

I think this depends on the person. Personally I'm pretty picky about game genres so I would at least want to know what kind of broad type of thing a game is. But there's absolutely people who prefer going into a new game mostly blind (especially one that's touted as a GOTY).

I mean, I don't think this is the thread for it, and I don't want to relitigate the Great Spoiler War yet again, but FWIW, I agree with Ted 100%. All that I knew about Obra Dinn going in was "you'll love it and you want to play it as blind as possible", and as someone who despises spoilers of all kinds, including mechanical ones, I trust my friends enough that that's good enough for me.

I can't recall who around here was excited about Dex, but I know someone was (and just like the old site, this one frustratingly won't allow me to search for words with that few characters), so FYI, it's like 2 bucks on Steam ATM.

I am interested in Dex on the Switch, but appreciate the heads up JBear :) (may have been me, idk lol)

For what it’s worth, I’d have paid full price for Obla Dinn after playing it. It’s that good.

Cattails is on sale for $2, which seems like an easy buy for a game with decent reviews that sounds like "Stardew Valley except everyone is a cat and there's less tedious farming and also the cats are all nonbinary."

Ooh, I've had that on my wishlist on Steam for a while. I just couldn't justify pulling the trigger at full price as it seemed a little too out there.
