THE FULL EXTENT OF THE JAM -- Shoot 'Em Up Thunderdome 2025

Gleylancer breaks the reaper's line of sight, while ATHENA wholly rejects Garfield's prom invite.

As a reminder, the Vampire Survivors vs Guardian Legend match up above still needs a tie-breaker vote (if it remains tied for a couple more days, I reserve the right to ask a coin for an opinion).

Round 1

Match 25

@RT-55J brings us to The Point of No Return with this Eschatos nomination. In the other corner @Peklo brings us a lovely piano rendition of Wind God Girl from Touhou Kaeizuka ~ Phantasmagoria of Flower View (Touhou 9), as performed by Nekomusume.

Match 26

@Sarge brings in yet more classic PC-Engine power with Operation 4 from Soldier Blade, while @Kalista gives us a classic dose of Flandre Scarlet with UN Owen Was Her from Touhou 6 .

"Wind God Girl" and "Operation 4".

Highly difficult first match-up! Eschatos is likely what I will always consider Yasui's masterwork and iconic contribution to the arts, and this is a great pick from it. As for my own nomination, Touhou pianists run wildly talented and varied, but no matter how many years pass, I keep coming back to Nekomusume's performances, for the astonishing dexterity and clarity of play, and the thoughtful and inventive arrangements of the material. That and the homemade dolls.

Note on the "U.N. Owen" upload in the second match: for the first two minutes, it's the game-original track, and thereafter transitions to COOL&CREATE's "Final Savage Sister, Flandre S.", a 2004 arrangement of the track (with additional riffs from Manabu Namiki's True Last Boss themes from Cave shooters, particularly Ketsui). It's not one track that segues between two sections but an uncredited mashup of two different ones, uploaded in the boom years of Touhou memes and nascent YouTube when sourcing anything was poorly done, so I thought I'd note it.

I understand and agree that talking trash about other nominations isn't wanted or needed in these threads, but I also would like some kind of advance notice if I'm going to be belted with misogynistic lyrics like in the Space Harrier arrange.
I honestly hadn't rewatched the whole video before submitting it. I remembered BEAT posting it a lot back in the day so I threw it in my noms but you are absolutely right, now that I hear it I should have given the meme thing that seemed funny years ago another pass before submitting it. I apologize.

Eschatos and Soldier Blade move on to the next round.

Round 1

Match 27

This match-up brings a Japanese PC (the Sharp 68k) up against the not-quite-actually-a-PC PC-Engine: @Regulus hails from Planet the E.A.R.T.H (ChoRenSha68k), and @Sarge is up to Operation 5 from Soldier Blade:

Match 28

This next match-up is an acrimonious one if I've ever seen one, with @Ludendorkk unleashing Poison of Snake (Life Force (NES)) from one corner, and @Peklo sending out Sadistic Yuan Xian from the other corner (an arrangement of a theme from Touhou Shinreibyou ~ Ten Desires (Touhou 13)):

"Planet the E.A.R.T.H" and "Sadistic Yuan Xian".

Cho Ren Sha 68K is both one of the best games and soundtracks ever; all bow to Loser Kashiwagi.

Tokyo Active NEETs are another of my most-listened Touhou music circles. They exhibit unparalleled energy and virtuosity through their "explosive jazz" renditions of the material in particular. If one is perplexed by the writhing bag man, that's residue from an old, mostly bad series meme that satirizes the fandom, here utilized in its most palatable form as a hype man who attempts to make the musicians break composure.

Planet the E.A.R.T.H. doesn't get cut apart, and the Sadistic Yuan Xian proves to be immune to poison.

Round 1

Match 22 Tiebreaker

Today is the last day for someone who didn't vote for this match to provide a tiebreaking vote between Vampire Survivors and The Guardian Legend before I decide it with a coinflip.

Match 29

@MCBanjoMike posits that the Ideal form of Ikaruga contains Hatsune Miku (MIKURUGA, if you will). Meanwhile, @WildcatJF bring thunder to the thunderdome with Stand Up Against Myself from Thunder Force IV (aka Lightening Force: Quest for the Darkstar).

Match 30

@Kalista goes all the way back to the Air Beginning of the History with this song from Gradius (NES). @Lokii is staying up until the Dead of Night with this song from Sayonara Wild Hearts.

The Miku big is very cute, but I'm going to have to give this to Thunder Force.

As for the other match, I thing the Gradiua track is quite strong, if not for the fact that the main loop is 5 seconds, so I'm going with Sayonara.
