The Fargo Thread: "And for what? For a little bit of money."

El Capitan de la outro espacio

Hey, Season 4 of Fargo is currently airing and its . . . fine. There is a lot about it that is very good, but so far (I've watched 6 episodes) it feels like a collection of very interesting puzzle pieces that someone put together wrong. I'm hoping it comes together in the end, but so far it is just lacking the tension and urgency of the previous seasons.

But hey, those previous seasons. They are still good. I've really come to love Season 3, which is the perfect encapsulation of the post-truth Trump era. The character are all stuck in a world that no longer makes sense to them and being demonstrably right is not enough to save you from institutions warped and manipulated by bad actors. Incredibly frustrating, but also insightful.

Johnny Unusual

I've been enjoying the season quite a bit. I don't think the show will have the impact of the first season again but I really like this season as an exploration of race and minority in society. I also like that Oraetta Mayflower is a mix of the terrible nihilistic monster villains that we see each season and the chirpy Marge Gunderson-esque protagonists we see in seasons 1 and 3. Chris Rock has also been tremendous this season. My only complaint is I wish we could spend more time with Emyri Crutchfield, who is effectively our protagonist (yeah, its an ensemble but this is the character we definitely want to be OK and outsmart the villains), really takes a backseat for a lot of this season.
