The Disney+ thread of ever-growing entertainment monopolies

I'm very disappointed that the Internet is eagerly spoiling that bit because it is indeed one of the funniest things I've ever seen. My husband made an offhand joke about it early on and then then we spent the whole lead up in disbelief. Surely they're not... WHAT?!

The movie is sitting better and better in my mind. I think I love it? It is pure trash and knows it.

I also made predictions on the VAs for each of the main characters of the pilot, since I didn’t see the credits ahead of time, and was almost completely wrong

Alex Hirsch was the one I guessed correctly

How you not gonna know the just shoot me lady?

She played both Ann Landers and Dear Abby in that one lifetime movie!

I too just jumped into Owl House (6 episodes in so far)! It's fun! Coming right off Gravity Falls, it feels like someone thought Hirsch's Cipher sounded adorable, and wanted to hear that attached to an actually sympathetic character. I hope to share more thoughts as I go (plus some thoughts on Gravity Falls, which I was way lttp on)... just need the time/energy.

Yeah I love that King is the exact opposite of Bill in every way.

I also love everything else in this show.

This is a good program! I like this cartoon a lot, already!

Hirsch is Dana Terrace’s boyfriend and she worked on Gravity Falls so I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if that is exactly what happened. Show is definitely hers top to bottom. Hence Eda being just exactly her favorite Tenchi Muyo character.

It's kind of wild that this show has three unrelated cute goofy sidekick characters, and yet none of them feel like too much.
Two of whom are voiced by the same actor, even!
And one of them dunks on the other's voice in one of the episodes I just saw!

I appreciate the naked enthusiasm the show, through Luz, has for the "rivals become friends" trope. It was all over the fiction that raised me, and I love it too! I also love Amity's secret hideout. A magic library is just a great setting, regardless of how often it's been done. Also, it's nice to see Amity isn't just "the bully (that inevitably gets redeemed)", but has different dynamics with different characters. Even as a recent dad who's become very attuned to parent-child plots in fiction, this was a fairly forgettable b-story. The bat family was neat, though. Hope to see them again.

Just watched the Owl House pilot. It's a fun, weird little show that suffers from a few loose threads... the pacing is a bit too frantic and the world doesn't hold together as neatly as I'd like. It's got this whole Harry Potter meets Hieronymus Bosch vibe, and I'm not sure those two styles work together. On the other hand, the jokes hit their marks with the impact and accuracy of heat-seeking missiles. I was laughing constantly, and not just light chuckles, but loud, boisterous laughter. When you get that kind of reaction from your audience, you know you're doing something right. The end credits where Luz wanders through the world, only to return home with her friends waiting for her with open arms, is really touching, too. I don't know these characters yet, but I feel like I want to.

(The voice cast is solid, but Alex Hirsch sounds like he's playing a character that should have been reserved for Richard Horvitz.)

YAAAAY! (By all, even the season that just ended? Also, is that just in Canada or did they give it the Simpsons treatment in the US?)

Being on season 12 of the Simpsons, Bob's Burgers has what that show ends up losing. So human and for the most part, it tends to remember that this family is just scraping by.

Owl House season 2 has started on Disney+ today, at least in the US! First five episodes are up so far. (I don't know if more than five have aired.)

Up to season 10, no idea about the US.

Oddly, season 9 and 10 were available in Canada, but only with Star. Now it’s in the regular part of D+.

Im sure there’s some clever reason for that

Is Futurama covered on D+, or is that more of a Hulu kind of show?
(He says, having most of the episodes on Amazon anyway)
