The Disney+ thread of ever-growing entertainment monopolies

This is very nice, but I'm wondering just how intact (or not) it will be. I mean, it's a copyright minefield, the DVDs we got already lost a number of bits 'cuz of issues with licensing the many, many songs on the show.

...How?

Either their assassin lawyers managed to "sort" the rights to all the music numbers or they have been digitally replaced with different cover versions of "Let it Go"

Yeah on the one hand the licensing issues alone would make this a nightmare to sort out. But on the other hand Disney is probably the only corporation with the money and influence to do that if they wanted. I guess we'll see.

But honestly I'd be happy with the chopped-up version. It's better than no classic Muppets.

But on the other, other hand, Disney also doesn't give two licks about artistic integrity and they know they can cheapen out and still rake in the cash so why bother?

Is the 2015 The Muppets TV show on D+? I know it didn't have the best reception or ratings, but I loved it for its very brief life.

I'm just keeping my expectations in check. I know Disney is stinkin' rich, but there's a difference between getting all of the (sometimes ludicrously tied up) rights to hundreds of songs for a single 44-year-old show that's just one of many on a streaming service and acquiring an entertainment media company with tons of other properties that can be mined for profit to obtain the rights to make X-Men and Fantastic 4 movies.

We finally watched Hamilton last night! I loved finally seeing what happens between the songs and how the staging and transitions work. And Jefferson and King George are even more over the top than I imagined.

In the moment I was upset that Eliza forgave him for cheating (and his role in Philip's duel?), but it's interesting that she was the one who petitioned for his writings to be published and seems to have been the main reason his legacy is preserved.

Watching this did reveal that my spouse had never heard of or listened to 10 Crack Commandments though so I fixed that right quick.

I'm hyped for everything I see in that trailer except the "Disney+ Premium."

Ah, well, I can wait an additional two months for the Blu-Ray to hit.

It took three months for Mulan Live Action to shift from Premium to regular Disney+. I can wait until June.

My mom recently created profiles for the rest of the family on her Disney+ account since according to her if she's going to be paying so much she might as well have it available to everyone in the house (she also did the same thing with her Netflix account which I'm using to watch Cobra Kai). Are there any shows you all would recommend?

I remember watching plenty of the older shows like DuckTales when I was younger, but have no idea if any of those still hold up and the only recent Disney show I've seen was Gravity Falls which I enjoyed and is already on my list for a rewatch. So far judging from previous posts it sounds like The Owl House and Gargoyles are some good picks.

Amphibia is also quite good. A lot of gravity falls in that one. Earth to Ned is a fun mix of the muppets and space ghost.

Mandalorian, obviously, if you like star wars and/or westerns.

I haven’t returned to any of the original Disney Afternoon shows yet, but the recent Ducktales reboot is fantastic.

I'd recommend Phineas and Ferb and Kim Possible in addition to those. And although its first season has not finished yet, Wandavision is really good so far.

Oh! Also! The Big Hero 6 animated series is definitely worth watching! It does a very good job of developing the origin story that the movie was telling into something more substantial.

Big City Greens is also a funny cartoon that's sailed under the radar.

Oh yeah, I started watching that because I’m a fan of Caldwell Tanners other works.

My fandom of him was justified!

Gargoyles is the obvious one to watch, as it holds up really well, but I’m also really enjoying TaleSpin. It does a better job than any of the DA shows at feeling like an old Disney comic come to life. The ensemble is great, the setting is great, and the villains are superb. I had forgotten that Don Karnage is just a straight-up Gilbert and Sullivan character, and that Shere Khan is a true neutral character rather than a straight-up bad guy. I also enjoy how often the inciting incident is from Becky’s clients being secret criminals.

Thanks for all the recommendations! Looking forward to watching these shows over the next couple of weeks.

Muppet Show is up!

Original Miss Piggy has the wrong voice and I am not having it
Yeah, there was a brief time when Richard Hunt and Frank Oz alternated between the role. By the end of the first season it'll be just Oz voicing her.

Also in Season 1 Janice is actually voiced by a woman. Maybe Eren Ozker wasn't the best voice for her, but given how many guys playing ladies there were on the show it's a pity she was only around for Season 1.

I think Janices design is also tweaked a bit in the first season, her face (muzzle?) is a lot more pointy than it would be later.

I also think she’s supposed to be an animal instead of a person
