Finally, a couple of songs I would have nominated myself if I had been paying enough attention to do so. In any event, Your Ex-Lover Is Little Things.

Dark Medusa

Fourth of July centers around Sufjan Steven's birth mom dying of cancer, and their conversations at her death bed. On one end, it's a meditation on death and passing, but the grief that Sufjan clearly puts into this song sings through.

This will probably be the last time I step foot in this thread for a bit (as my parents are currently evacuated from a fire and listening to any of these would not put me in a good place given the subject matter), but my song "Nothing to Lose" is the story of a teenager suffering from rejection, teasing and isolation at high school that leads to the point of their choosing to take their own life by the end. I've always felt it does a very good job at capturing the brutal nature of that age, how ruthless and uncaring the school system can be (noted by the teacher's commenting "it's just a phase, when I grow up my children will probably do the same"), and how sad and lonely and broken someone can become.

I won't pass a vote this time.
