The DC Comics TV & Movie Thread - A Thread for Talking about Detective Comics Comics Television Shows and Movies

I think Paul Dini is overrated and also has some weird proclivities I don’t like in my comic book things.

Edit: I just realized I was mixing up Paul Dini with Bruce Timm, who is very much attached to this new cartoon. AhhhhhhhhHHHHHH! That does not engender confidence... 😣

The very slight tan on Lois makes me hope for a version of Lois Chaudhari from Busiek's Secret Identity.

(As in, it's not gonna be her directly, but a PoC background would be excellent.)

*Looks at an adaptation of a comic book where a man who watched his parents get murdered in front of him as a child dedicates his life to holding off the hordes of insane criminals trying to overrun his city at the expense of any chance at normalcy*

Damn why is this so dark

I would not even call that a "slight tan" - imo that's more of when white people want to code East Asian characters as Asian, they give them a slightly different, yellow complexion. That combined with the eyeshape that's intentionally more rounded and oval shaped versus Supes and Jimmy, if I had to guess they're visually coding her as Asian, but we'll see.

Fake Edit: Lois is being played by Alice Lee, so probably East Asian.

Also, Clark is being played by Jack Quaid, and that's just so perfect.

Regarding the new Bat series;

Eh. Lemme see a trailer and then I'll judge. That pic is standard Batman stuff.

I'm honestly at the point where I rather it be someone else out of principle. I like getting fresh takes on old characters, and I'm very tired of the nerd-reflexive-reaction to reject and complain about every time something is different in a thing they love.

New Superman looks promising.

As for Batman, not counting Harley Quinn it’s been six years since the last Batman animated series, and 10 years since the last successful Batman animated series, so I’m willing to hear them out.

I'd actually be down for a completely dialogue-less Batman series. As it stands, I don't have any opinions on the new Batman series yet. Could be fun but as we've seen, Bruce Timm's involvement doesn't guarantee that. But part of me is hoping that the look means it will harken back to REALLY old Batman stories with Dr. Death and the Mad Monk and it was Batman vs. monsters and stuff. And more than even TAS, a Fleischer feel. But no guns.

The Superman is the one I'm hyped for. I feel its been a long time since there's been a Superman thing outside the comics that appeals to me and this looks like the exact kind of think I want. Bubbly, fun, optimistic. Just a good time. Hopefully, lots of Bizarro.

I was going to make a joke about Jimmy Olson being too old relative to the other characters, but that one screen and the pitch are too good for me to try to nitpick.

It looked like complete ass, but I still contend Beware the Batman was a really good show. Batman in a Year One scenario, and great takes on Alfred, Katana, and Babs. (Best versions I've seen of all three characters in animated things.) And the whole season was basically an origin story for Batman and the Outsiders, and it featured a lot of great underused villains like Magpie, Professor Pyg, Mr Toad, Cypher, Anarky, etc. It's too bad this show never got a chance to grow into itself more like Clone Wars did before the plug was pulled.

If you count Super Hero Girls as a Superman thing (I like spending time with Super/Powergirl instead anyways) it's pretty bubbly, fun, and optimistic. It's very ymmv though, since it's aiming pretty young with its target audience and is basically just MLP but DC Heroines. This definitely looks like something that's more appealing though, since they're young adults and ostensibly we're more of the target audience.

It’s also got JJ Abrams set to direct, so I’m sure it’ll be good for one episode.

Also;
That Lois and Clark show looks like it fixed my only complaint with Supergirl; Jimmy should be neither cool nor handsome.

I accept only lovable dweebs as cub reporters!

It's especially dumb when the title character, a buff god, is still white.

I have seen redheads a little bummed that ginger characters seem like the usual target to swap out, though that disappointment typically stays at an "aw shucks" level.

I know there are people out there who are red heads, and are sad that this or that specific character they like or identify with doesn't have red hair anymore. But that's by and large not who is complaining and getting up in arms over stuff like this. To quote someone I read elsewhere on the internet where people were being decidedly a little more coarse than "aw shucks":

It's just terminally-online Twitter accounts and Youtubers who act like there's a Hollywood conspiracy to systematically replace redheads with black people. Where's all the outrage over Finn Witrock playing Guy Gardner? Charlie Cox as Daredevil? Every version of Jim Gordon prior to Jeffrey Wright? Every live action version of Jimmy Olsen prior for Mehcad Brooks?

Meanwhile, Lois is East Asian now too, but nobody notices or cares. Especially when white people are predisposed to assuming Asian cartoon characters are white.

The Most recent episode of Batwoman was THE COP EPISODE and it was fucking PAINFUL to watch.

I like how Luke was the one at the beginning of the episode who was like yo, you have to do this and this to survive confrontations with police officers, and then was dumb enough to do none of it at the end of the episode and got himself shot. Such a ridiculous 42 minutes, it was so ugh.

I fell behind Flash for three weeks, and am just now catching up. JFC, this such a shitshow.

Barry is now the father of his own mother now!?!? Killer Frost was tried in absentia and sent to jail for life for petty crimes!?!? They said some technobabble and now we can just freely change history without any repercussions??? Sisko is leaving the team again, but for vague reasons I don't really understand in order to write him off the show??? These new lows would be shocking if I hadn't watched the last 5-6 seasons of this trainwreck.

Apparently Bart Allen is going to be joining Flash at some point. And CW released some publicity photos to hype it up:

I think it's great that whoever photoshops the promo art for Disney XD teen superhero comedies can branch out to the CW.
