All the replies going “Who cares, they gave us a great movie“ are either bots themselves or living proof that nerds were a mistake.

In case you're not being facetious, the problem is not the movie (who cares) but that the director and producer weaponize social media and encourage radicalization in their followers.

Zack Snyder doesn't even have a Twitter account. What weaponizing?

As far as I know, the most prominent social media controversy involving anybody who actually worked on the film was star Ray Fisher's persistent allegations of a hostile work environment that prevailed after Snyder left the project in 2016.

Snyder called to say he wanted several sentences from the story removed. “I’m just telling you what the fans are going to do. Trust me, they are pretty, pretty, pretty rough,” he warned. The sentences stayed, and the SnyderVerse throng descended.

An ominous yet vague insinuation. Note how they stop short of saying that he actually did anything, or even that any of their sources claimed he did anything. It's because they don't want a libel suit, not over something as trivial as a classically lurid bit of muckraking whose release is timed to coincide with a marketing schedule.

They couldn't even get the victims of the review bombing to get angry about it. This article is a big fat nothing.

When these kinds of things leak, it’s always useful to remember who stands to benefit from what’s being leaked and what the leak insinuates.

I'm really hoping no one boosting this here read anything but the headlines, because the core of the article is definitely an attempt to stamp out Ray Fischer's extremely backed up allegations of racism by basically everyone but Snyder and portray Geoff Johns especially as the real victim here.

This reporting is not what anyone wants to hitch their wagon to, no matter how you feel about Snyder or the movie.

I started reading it and got about 3 or 4 paragraphs in before checking how long it was, then I bounced lol

Two things can be true. The Snydercut cult can be a toxic group adjacent to other famous harassments campaigns that Snyder leveraged and abetted to for his own benefit and this report can be designed to launder various WB reputations.

I did read the whole thing. The extent to which it relies on the 'independent' investigation of wrongdoing around JL stands out about how transparent it is, but as far as it claims about the astroturfed Snydercut 'movement' it seemed to be reasonably backed up.

The Snyder cut was fine but the nerds immolating themselves with gasoline for it is the stupidest shit ever.

Also BVS sucked and no amount of the Snyder cut being okay will ever change that.

Basically I have absolutely no problem believing that Zack gave some reputation dot com alike dudes a couple thosand dollars to make a few dumbasses look like a lot more dumbasses even though he doesn't twitter.

I believe the extent to which Snyder may or may not have exerted any control over the ReleasetheSnyderCut harassment campaign is unclear. I think it is clear that that group is/was just a few steps short of a full on g*merg*ate style rightwing hate and harassment movement. While Snyder doesn't have a twitter, he does (or did) have an instagram, where he would egg the group on. Not necessarily in any nefarious way, the 'fan outcry' was his leverage to get the opportunity to finish a project he clearly cared very much about. I find it implausible that he was not aware of the toxic side of ReleasetheSnyderCut and some of his actions appear to be weaponizing that aspect.

Honestly, I posted the link more about the large amount of accounts using the hashtag appear to have been bots, and that it is not at all any kind of organic fan campaign. Which seems true to my experience, because it is very rare that I encounter someone else in real life who like's Snyder's DC movies.

I don't think that Snyder fans are any more of a right-wing harassment mob than any other random fan group. But it's possible you know something I don't.

Fandoms are awful. Don't belong to one. Just like things with your friends.

Can't say I'm surprised, but this is still extremely disappointing.

That sucks. I thought it was pretty much done and I was eager to see it. Someone is going to have to explain to me how it makes business sense to cancel a nearly finished film instead of just quietly releasing it on the streaming platform it was always destined for.

It is done. They've already had advanced screenings of it. I have no faith that the people running Discovery Inc know wtf they're doing.
I can say with some insider knowledge that the people at Time, Warner, AOL, and now most certainly Discovery have never had a single goddamn clue what they were doing with DC.

I've been watching some of the recent DC animated films for the last couple of days and... they ain't bad. They're super basic, but they're generally fun interpretations of the characters.
The shorts are more interesting because otherwise it's life 65% Batman.

That said, Batman Ninja is god-tier.

Some of the DC direct-to-video animated films are pretty ok. Some are dreadful. None are all that well animated for a feature film, but they're usually serviceable. The most recent ones Catwoman: Hunted and Green Lantern: Beware My Power were actually really solid. Catwoman was produced by a Japanese studio, and was basically a Lupin III film, but with Catwoman fighting a gauntlet of almost every cat-themed villain in the DC Universe until she came out supreme on top. Green Lantern was an odd film, but I think it worked. At first, it just seemed like a modern take on the John Stewart origin story. But very quickly it turned into Emerald Twlight, complete with Paralax-Hal Jordan, and eradication of the Lantern Corp. So in essence, they just kind of grafted Kyle Raynor's origin story onto John Stewart but then set up John to revive the Lantern Corp himself instead of being a solo Lantern like Kyle was for a decade or whatever. I would recommend both.

Edit: Oh, also Harley Quinn Season 3 came back last Thursday and it's just as much fun as before. Enjoy this show while you guys can, at the rate Discovery is going they'll torch this show and the rest of HBO Max with it for no god damned good reason.

Do you think that the HBO shows will no longer be tied to a service, but sold out to Netflix, prime whatever? Streaming rights I mean

The Flash movie currently in development was announced in October of 2014, meant to be released 2 years later. The Flash tv show premiered October 7, 2014. Season 9 of The Flash will premiere in 2023, and following usual TV schedules will likely air its finale near the end of May, start of June. The Flash movie is currently set to be released June 23, 2023.

Like, for them to just chuck the entire thing in a dark hole is just... Nuts.
Like you can make a few bucks back on a bad movie, but you'll never make anything on a movie you didn't release.

Either this was a stupid decision made in an Ill-advised attempt at internal flexxxing or a fit of pique, or what they had was unreleasable to the point where it would have cost countless millions in reshoots and post production work.

My money's on the former, because fucking Suicide Squad (2016) saw a release.
