The Castlevaniadome Nomination Thread - What a Treble Night for a Curse

There’s a chill in the air and Fall approaches. The Fall of Man that is!

Castlevania (Akumajō Dracula in the original Japanese) is the game franchise detailing the millenia long battle between Count Dracula and various vampire slayers (most notably the Belmont family) who are determined to rid the world of the evil vampire. Since 1986, the franchise has been a fan favourite, evolving from a very linear action platformer to a Metroid-inspired game of exploration. With dense lore, it’s actually surprising that the series has remained dormant so long but this year, next month in fact, will see the first new game in over a decade. So to celebrate it and the spooky season, we are FINALLY going to do a thunderdome for the entire Castlevania franchise.

I’d actually been planning this for a couple years but the timing never lined up to do this in time for Castleween! So, I can’t wait to have us celebrate the most Halloweeny of game franchises (sorry, Resident Evil. You come pretty close, though) for a REAL monster mash!

For any first timers, here are the rules

  1. List up to four “Castelvania” tunes
  2. Wait….
  3. When the matches start, the entries will be put into one-on-one matches for “what do you like better”
  4. Vote on the ones you like best!
“Oh, so you can include any tune from the original core Castlevania series?”

Nope, think bigger!

“The TV Show too?”

Bigger than that.

“Covers and remixes?”

Oh, even this is limiting.

We are going to not only include every game, but spin-offs, the other media, all that. Even certain homage games. Ones that are a little Bloodstained, let’s say. And if there’s any commercials or fan raps or anything, that works too. Please dig deep if you need to. The ONE exception is the original Wicked Child (remixes, rearrangements, covers, etc are allowed though), which already won a thunderdome! So not that one. If it is even remotely Castlevania-related, throw it in. The more variety, the better! The more obscure or off-beat, the better. Sure, it’s fun when your pick wins but to me, the real fun is sharing some favourites! Let’s do-it to-it!

Deadline for nominations is September 30th!

Until then…

1. Calling From Heaven from Perfect Selection Dracula Battle (arranged by Naoto Shibata, originally composed by Michiru Yamane for Castlevania: Bloodlines)
2. Heart of Fire from Castlevania: Harmony of Despair (arranged by Yasushi Asada, originally composed by Kinuyo Yamashita, Satoe Terashima and Konami Kukeiha Club for Castlevania and Haunted Castle)*
3. Abandoned Castle from Vampire Survivors (arranged by KEYGEN CHURCH, originally composed by Michiru Yamane for Castlevania: Curse of Darkness)
4. Clockwork from Vampire Survivors (arranged by KEYGEN CHURCH, originally composed by Konami Kukeiha Club for Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse)

*"Heart of Fire" as used in Aria of Sorrow and later in Harmony of Dissonance is actually a medley of two older pieces: Heart of Fire from Castlevania, and Don't Wait Until Night from Haunted Castle.

Wandering Ghosts - Latin Mix (originally from SotN) - attribution on this one is weird, I was looking for a remix by "kaijin" that I've had in my mp3 collection for decades and this is... almost but not quite it, seems like a remix of the remix? I think the original may have actually been a MIDI file that got bundled with some version of RPGMaker so a bunch of people imprinted on it and did their own versions later. Anyway, still slaps.

Castlevania - The Minibosses - medley of tunes from the first game

Lost Painting - Smash Bros version arr Tetsuya Shibata

Bloody Tears IIDX Edition - DJ Yoshitaka - for when you need to get your Castlevania and your DDR on at the same time
